Music Soiree
The Term 1 Music Soiree saw live music return to Dromana College during the evening of Wednesday 31st of March. In order to be COVID safe, the soiree was held outdoors in the Year 7 Area as opposed to the usual location of the Dromana College Theatre. Bunting and chairs were set up, however more were rapidly required as the audience numbers exceeded the expected attendance significantly. With the sun beginning to set, the performance commenced and continued until the night-time stars were visible above with over 130 students from Year 7 – 12 performing. The students were very excited to perform and their support and encouragement of each other was as impressive as always. The students greatly appreciated all those who could attend on the night and watch the performances.
VCE Music Evening
The VCE Music Evening was a wonderful concert that was the culmination of five months of hard work and preparation by the Year 11 and 12 Music students. The concert doubled as the students’ final performance assessment for Semester 1 and was an opportunity to showcase their repertoire in front of friends, family and staff. The performances ranged from contemporary vocal to classical trumpet solos and involved a variety of different ensemble pieces. The evening was a great success, and the attendance was impressive and supportive of the College and the students involved. The students performed exceptionally well and were pleased to be able to have the opportunity to perform live once again.
ANZAC Day
The Dromana College Music Department students participated in a number of ANZAC Day services across the Mornington Peninsula, including the Dromana College school assembly. Students performed a haunting version of, I Was Only Nineteen by Redgum and Lior’s, Safety of Distance to over 1900 students and staff in the school gym.
On ANZAC Day the Music Department marched from the R.S.L to the Dromana Cenotaph to perform at the service for the Dromana community. The march was kept in time by Dromana College student Tom Selth. Tom did this with great precision and marched with the veterans at the front. Later in the day at Mount Martha Football Club, Jordan Isbister performed the Last Post and Rouse flawlessly before a large crowd gathered to watch the local ANZAC Day football match.
The Music Department were very proud of the students who represented the school and the commemoration of ANZAC Day for 2021.
