Division Athletics Championships
On the 29th of April, Dromana College made history again in sport – this time at the Division Athletics Championships. Not only did we come home with the win overall by 300 points, we also took home all 9 pennants!! This is really rare and the first time for Dromana College. Each pennant represents an age group and includes Junior girls, Junior Boys, Intermediate Girls, Intermediate Boys, Senior Girls, Senior Boys, Overall Girls, Overall Boys and Grand Aggregate.
Congratulations to all students involved in the team, as they were incredible, and a credit to the school. We have over 60 kids who have made it through to the regional championships and they will compete here in October.
Congratulations to our state swimmers who competed In the State Swimming Championships on the 22nd of April at MSAC. (The team photo missing Chelsea Hutchins). Dromana College as a team came 37th out of 140 schools in the state. This is a huge effort, well done team.
Results from the day:
Luke Baxter - 2nd in backstroke.
Tahni Cronin - 4th in breaststroke with a new PB! And 3rd in freestyle.
18 Boys Relay (Joel Fraser, Luke Baxter, Kobei Holmes, Nat Clarke) - 3rd
Chelsea Hutchins - 8th in backstroke.
This was the last state championship competition for our 18 boys relay team who have made state every year since Year 7. Not just as a relay team but most of them have competed individually also. Well done boys, huge effort. Also Chelsea Hutchins last year of state championships, Chelsea has made state in a variety of events most of her school life. We are so very proud of you all for representing Dromana College at such high levels throughout your schooling. We will miss you in our future teams.
Cross Country
I know you are probably all sick of the old “history in the making” comment, but here we are again. Going back through the records, Dromana College were yet to take out a cross country division championship until now which we did in the wind, rain, cold and all!
Mia Spicer (pictured), was winning by a lot, got sent the wrong direction in her U13 race so had to race again for the medal for 13 girls. She raced again in the 16 girls, beat all of them and ended up winning the 13 girls with her time.
The other photo is of the 5 pennants we came home with - such a huge achievement.
Well done to all competitors and good luck to those that are competing at the Southern Metropolitan Regional championships to be held on Monday June 21st.
Here’s to amazing students, the unheard of triple win (swimming, athletics and cross country) and to Dromana College. What a year 2021 has been already. So proud.
