STUDENT WELLBEING AND ENGAGEMENT REPORT

Peer Mediation

There have been over 20 students trained in Peer Mediation in the previous weeks. These students are part of the School Representative Council (SRC). The Peer Mediation Program aims to reduce incidences of bullying by providing a school environment that is positive, caring, safe and friendly. Peer Mediation teaches students to resolve low-level conflicts using their peers as mediators. Mediation opens up communication channels allowing the disagreeing students to discuss their problems and come to a resolution with the guidance of the mediators.

Students may develop improved skills in communication, problem solving and conflict management. Students are trained under the supervision of a teacher to use a systematic mediation process to resolve disputes.

The Six Steps to Mediation we use is:

  1. Agree to mediate
  2. Find out what the problem is
  3. Find out what each person wants
  4. Finding solutions
  5. Choosing the best idea
  6. Create an agreement

Head Lice

They are the dreaded creepy crawlies that make you begin to scratch your head. Below is a link a You Tube Clip to show you how to treat head lice.

According to the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2009, children with untreated head lice are not permitted to attend school or children’s service centres. However, once treatment has started, they may attend, even if there are still some eggs present.
