SPORT REPORT

KINGSTON SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday 5 March, the McKinnon swimming team were in full flight. There were some senior students that had other formal commitments, but overall we had one of our largest teams for this event.

For six years running McKinnon won the overall competition, only nudging out Parkdale by 71 points. We also won the Junior Boys, Senior Boys and Boys Aggregate pennants.

Super fishes on the day were Will Sharp (Year 7), Sienna Beaves (Year 8), Gabriella Lignos (Year 10) and Max Putamorsi (Year 11) who won multiple events and won the Age Group Champion trophies.

We have a team of twenty-two that will compete in the Southern Metropolitan Region Finals on Thursday 26 March. We wish them the best of luck.

LAWN BOWLS

McKinnon entered three teams into the Kingston Division Lawn Bowls competition on Monday 23 February at McKinnon Lawn Bowls Club.  The competition was fierce between fourteen teams.

JUNIOR LAWN BOWLS

Congratulations to our Champion Junior team of the Hardy (William & James) boys and Anthony Hantzopoulous who won the Junior Pennant and made it into the final round of the Seniors competition.

SENIOR LAWN BOWLS

Our Senior team played in a nail biting final that saw each bowl finishing centimetres from the Jack. Unfortunately Mordialloc had luck on their side. The measuring tape came out and Mordialloc were just too good on the day to take out the pennant.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the McKinnon Senior Boys team of Matt James (Skipper) Jason Moncrieff (lead) and Nicholas Whittaker on their efforts in the last few years with interschool lawn bowls. They have been sensational ambassadors for the school and for lawn bowls.  It is an end of an era. Through their exposure to lawn bowls in the Junior Sports Programme they are now playing competition lawn bowls on the weekend for a community club. It is this pathway that gives coaches such pleasure. Well done boys and good luck in the future. Nick is now looking to recruit two players for the school team next year!

Well done again to all.
