LEARNING MATTERS

YEAR 12 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: PORT OF MELBOURNE EXCURSION
Unit 3 of Business Management focuses on large scale organisations and their importance to the Australian economy. To gain a firsthand look of a real-life organisation, both Year 12 Business Management classes went to the Port of Melbourne Corporation during Week 3.
Students learnt the positive impact that big business makes on Australian society, the need to be ethical and socially responsible, internal and external pressures placed on business and also an understanding of the Port of Melbourne as a hub for import and export trade in south-eastern Australia.
Everyday the Port of Melbourne moves 7000 shipping containers in and out of the docks, accounting for the management of 34% of Australia’s total imports and exports. Students therefore saw cranes in action, massive shipment infrastructure, the delivery and unpacking of shipping containers and the many other logical processes involved in the industry. This was a great introduction to Year 12 Business Management and perfect insight before their first SAC!
