Senior School

SHARRON FRAME

Head of Senior School

The term break begins at the end of this week. The past couple of weeks have been filled with SACs and work requirements, so preparation and time management has been high on the agenda for students in Senior School. It is important that the momentum that has been started during the term, continues through the break from school. There are always English texts to read!

In particular, students completing Unit 3 & 4 VCE sequences have suddenly realised what little time is left this year to complete all the necessary instruction and assessment. For some, holidays will include the need to attend scheduled holiday sessions with their teachers. In addition, they need to complete at least a minimum of three hours of study each day to keep focused. However, it is also important to make some downtime an integral part of their routine, to recharge and recover from the pace of Term 1.

Term 2 will be a short term, and commences on April 30th. I wish all the families and students of Senior School a safe and blessed Easter, and look forward to seeing you all after the term break.

Student Action

I would like to recognise the work of our School Captains, William Athanasakis and Vasiliki Tamvakis. On top of the demands of their study program, they have been actively involved in a number of events, demonstrating excellence in their representation of the School. Both are articulate and capable. They have spoken at Open Days, greeted visitors to the School, and recently shared their voice and goals by working collaboratively to produce a response to the question, “What difference can your generation make to the world?”, which was published in the Tomorrow’s Leaders special edition of the Leader newspaper. Well done to both of them.

They are not alone in their actions. A number of students are sure to reach new heights. Recent sporting competitions have seen new records set; students have achieved outstanding results for outcomes, and a number have just simply been present to represent the School. The photos below show their willingness to be more than just a bystander.

Higgins Medal

Last year, Alexander Logan and Janvi Gupta were awarded the Higgins Medal. They were invited to accept their awards from Minister for Jobs and Industrial Relations and the Minister for Women, Kelly O’Dwyer MP. Congratulations Alexander and Janvi.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Interim reports will be sent home this week. Whilst these are not comprehensive reports, they do provide an outline of your child’s progress since the start of the year. The first of the calendared Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Wednesday 1st May, from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm, and Monday 6th May, from 4.00 to 6.00 pm.

I strongly encourage all parents and guardians to make a time to speak with your child's teachers about their progress. Teachers will indicate on the student's reports if they believe an interview is required. These are important conversations and should not be left until there is an issue, or until they are in their final year of school.
