Last week I attended the 2019 International Baccalaureate (IB) Global Conference with the Head of the Middle School, Haydn Flanagan. The conference was located at the AsiaWorld-Expo adjacent to the Hong Kong International Airport.

The International Baccalaureate has chosen “Generation IB” as their theme for 2019. The conference itself had a strong service learning theme with the hope that as IB educators we can encourage our students to have a positive impact on pressing global issues such as poverty, inequality and injustice, and the state of our planet.

The conference brought together teachers, academics, administrators and commercial providers from schools, universities, governments and businesses in the Asia Pacific region. Over 1800 delegates attended the conference coming from the 140 countries and 5000 schools that are now part of the International Baccalaureate.

The collegiality and warmth of the IB community is a special feature of these conferences. We re-acquainted ourselves with colleagues from overseas and from schools around Australia, while also forging new connections and relationships that will assist in the further development and promotion of the Middle Years Program, as we approach evaluation in 2020.
