The Weenthunga Health Network: Girls Resilience Program

"The Women's Talk Health Day”

The Weenthunga Health Network: Girls Resilience Program is underway, and the “Women's Talk Health Day” was held on the 2nd of April. The purpose of this program is to encourage interactions between young indigenous women, provide them with information, and instil inspiration/ motivation in exploring the notion of careers in health.

It was wonderful for Kelly Barratt to participate in a program as such, with 15 other Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young women from Years 10, 11, or 12 across the area. Together they visited three sites including Barwon Health, Deakin University & Wathaurong Health Services, where they had many opportunities to connect with professionals and see first-hand what is involved (eg. paediatrics, pharmacy, BMI & Audiology, nursing labs & ACCHO's).

Each site presented a key speaker; Renee Owen, Candice McKenzie & Aunty Athalie Madden, all whom have made a huge contribution to Health & Health Education in the Aboriginal community.

Such a fantastic day for the many involved: And the journey ahead is looking very promising!
