ArtVo

On April 23 the Intermediate and Senior VCAL classes went on an excursion to ArtVo, an interactive art gallery at Docklands in Melbourne.

The purpose of our excursion was to provide us with visual material for our Literacy units.

The art work has been created by Japanese artists and is in the form of 3D and optical illusions. Since it is a public space we had to take turns to take photos at many of the various artworks. Staff members of the facility also offered to help pose you and take group photos.

After we all finished our walk-through experience we got lunch from the food courts that are under the Melbourne Eye Ferris wheel.

We had a very enjoyable day.

Thanks to Ms Mullins-Walsh, Mr Dunne and Mr Kalla for taking us.

Grand Prix Melbourne Excursion

On March the 14th, the Year 12 VCAL class attended  the Grand Prix in Melbourne, at Albert Park with Mrs McMillan and Mr McGarigle. The day included catching a bus in the morning from school to the Grand Prix. For many people it was their first time going to the Grand Prix. When we got there we walked around for a bit and had a look at some of the merchandise stalls and the food vans. Then we went and watched as many races as we could. The first race we watched was the Ferraris, we picked a car and timed how long it took for one car to get around the track, it took 1 minute 12 seconds for the Ferraris to get right around the track. Then we watched the super cars and it took 1 minute 53 seconds to get around the track. We are using all the times of the cars for decimal work in Numeracy lessons.

A few quotes from some students that attended are:

Sapna Hussain 11C

Sapna: “I’m the type of person who doesn’t like cars very much or really know much about cars, but going to the Grand Prix has helped build and grow my knowledge. I can truly say this was the best experience of my life.”

Tanika: “ I found this day to be fun and memorable, but also very educational. I also got to meet some famous race car drivers including Jordan Love.”

Thank you to the teachers who organised this great event.

VCAL Mini Carnival

On Tuesday 2nd of April at lunch time we had a few activities running around the school to help the Senior VCAL team raise money to help fund Relay For Life & The Cancer Council’s important research. We had ‘Sponge the Teachers’ which was a great hit! We also had the Mini Carnival running at lunch which did well with the four activities they ran. With four more activities left we hope to get a good turnout for each one and more money raised for Relay for Life. Be sure to keep an eye out for posters around the school advertising these.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all the teachers who participated in the ‘Sponge The Teachers’ game - Mr Kalla, Mr McGarigle and Mr Turner, and to all of the students who participated in our activities.

MFG Term 2 : Senior VCAL

We are a few weeks back into term and have many plans ahead. We also had many great experiences last term. The Senior VCAL class had Sarah-Maree Cameron - a guest speaker from KRock, a visit to ArtVo in Melbourne with the year 11 VCAL class. We also went to the Geelong Tech School, at the Gordon, to make race cars and check out reaction times and we also got to run fundraisers to raise money for Relay for Life. We are raising money to help the Cancer Council as we participated in Relay for Life on the 15th and 16th of March. Our fundraisers have been going great and so far we have raised $120 with more to come so keep an eye out for posters and information on Compass. In first term it was great to see everybody get involved in the Swimming Carnival, Athletics and MMADDD Day. We can’t wait to also see everyone get up and go for a run or even a walk for Cross Country on Friday. In first term the Senior VCAL girls have been learning and exploring the issue of cancer. We have been learning about the treatments, supports and who cancer patients can go to for help and others’ needs. Senior VCAL also have many things coming up in this term such as a visit to Sovereign Hill, a Pop-up Market, and much more. It’s been a challenging and at times stressful year but we are all getting through and doing our best. Having work to get done and many excursions at times gets hard to have everything done, but we are up for the challenge and the goal is to keep “moving forward”!
