Fairytales: Fact or Fiction
On Thursday 31 May, Unit 1 and Unit 3 Drama students performed their interpretations of Fairytales: Fact or Fiction to an evening audience of parents, friends and LHS staff.
The Unit 1 students performed together as one group while the Unit 3 students consisted of three groups presenting work in the style of Grotowski’s Poor Theatre, Brecht’s Epic Theatre and Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty.
The ensemble task is a significant component of the course and requires groups to employ a range of play-making techniques over a two month period.
Students were asked to make connections with social and political issues of today and those during the industrial revolution, a time when traditional fairytales were a popular literary pastime.
Unit 3 students had the added task of looking toward the year of 2048 and the social divide caused by the poor management of technology.
All of the performances were highly entertaining and the students presented themselves in a most composed and professional manner.
During the evening, the students’ performances were assessed and moderated by a panel of experienced VCE Drama staff comprising myself, Angela Louis, Narelle McGrotty, Jono Bleakley and Amy Cumming.
VCE Photography student Jay Kogler also took photographs on the night.
Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved. This was a most successful evening and we look forward to presenting the Unit 2 and Unit 4 Solo performances later in the year.
