Premiers' Reading Challenge

Read, read more, read more widely!

Since the challenge began 14 years ago, more than 2.5 million students have turned the pages of nearly 45 million books.

Regular reading from an early age is vital for success at school and has lifelong benefits. The challenge encourages children to read more and promotes a love of reading, supporting the Education State target to have more students reaching the highest levels of achievement in reading.

Lilydale High School has been taking part in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge again this year and our students are going really well.

Many of our Year 7 students are well on their way to achieving their goal of reading 15 books by September and 35 students have already met the challenge! Currently, our students have read over 1700 books!

Congratulations so far to 7I, Ms Hemmings class, who have read 658 books between them.  7G are also enjoying their reading with a class tally of 183.

This challenge is also open to students in Years 8, 9 and 10.  Several students have taken up the challenge and have so far read 58 books.

Students who read 10 books by September, will be invited to a celebration in the Library in Term 4,  where other prizes will also be awarded.

We have also reissued the Staff Reading Challenge to promote literacy and encourage discussions about reading. Teachers and Support staff please keep reading too, and support our challenge.

Remember, the holidays are a great time to relax with a new book to read!
