TERM 2

Year 8 Significant Persons Day

It was a privilege to recently attend the two Significant Person Days at which our Year 8 students showcased the work they had completed in English, Languages and Art classes to acknowledge a significant person in their lives.

The project includes an artistic representation and a written piece, that is drafted and perfected in English classes, that relates to a person who is a positive influence in the lives of our Year 8 students.   There is also a Language element in which the students translate some of their writing into French or Indonesian.   The project culminates in an afternoon of presentations and a gallery to display the work.  It is a wonderful event that takes a great deal of organisation.

Thanks to Head of Arts, Sarah Hardy, Head of English Jess Timmers and Head of Languages Sharon Stoyanoff for taking a lead in the project, to Assistant Principals Melissa McMillan and Genaha Thompson for their work behind the scenes, to our fabulous Year 8 Captains and Assistant Captains; Jesse Dooley, Sian Jones, Charlotte Green and Ethan Webber for officially hosting both afternoons and to our great staff and students for being part of the project. Special thanks to Josh Daly, Stuart Morrow and Alex Pullen for organising lights and sound in the Theatre.

Instrumental Music Evening

A great night was had by all who performed and attended at last Thursday’s, Instrumental Music Evening. This was the biggest evening we have had in recent years with many musicians from across the year levels performing in ensembles and bands.

Congratulations to everyone on a wonderful night.  Thanks to family and friends who were in attendance. Thanks also to Kate McAlister the Head of Instrumental Music and the Instrumental Music teachers; Amy Cumming, Bronwyn Ventura, Kent Fisk, Malcolm Abbot, Selene Messinis and Stephen McCulloch who teach our students and lead the bands/ensembles.

End of Term 2

As Term 2 draws to a close, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to another successful term at Lilydale High School.

A reminder that school will finish at 2.30 pm this Friday June 29 and resume on Monday July 16.
