PBS Celebration Day

Foundation were lucky enough to be able to put our last bird up on our PBS tree last week! This meant that we had reached 3000 acknoweldgemtns for excellence, resileince and respect this year, most importantly we needed to celebrate this achievement. The 2020 Student Representative Council collected suggestions from all the classes and held a vote; the board games afternoon was the winner.

It was great to see Foundation students bringing in their favourite games to share with their friends and buddies. During the game time, everyone truly demonstrated our school values of excellence, resilience and respect. It was such a fun afternoon and a fantastic way to celebrate reaching 3000 acknowledgments for the year so far! We look forward to our next celebration day!

Literacy

Foundation have been very resilient during our literacy sessions this past week. We have been learning that we can read more than just the words in a book, we can also read the pictures. Foundation have been practising reading with a partner, sitting EEKK (elbow to elbow, knee to knee) and talking about what is happening in the illustrations.

Foundation have also started learning what it means to make a prediction about a text. We have been using the clues we can see in the illustrations and what we can hear in the text to make a prediction about what will happen next.

This is a fantastic strategy to practice with your students during your nightly reading time. Discuss what can be seen in the illustration and then use that information to make a prediction about what will happen next.

Numeracy

Foundation have been busy this week learning about measurement. We started learning about how we can measure the length of different objects. We have explored measuring length by using informal units of measure, this includes; blocks, icy pole sticks, hands and our feet to find the length of objects around the room, as well as our own heights. Foundation have been practicing measuring these objects by not overlapping the informal units or leaving a gap in between.

Foundation have also just started to learn about capacity. We learnt that capacity means how much something holds. We started to find the capacity of different size containers by using teddies and dinosaurs. We found out that some containers had a greater capacity than others.

Student Representative Council

Congratulations to Xzavier and Ellie on being elected for our 2020 student representative council. We look forward to hearing you report back from your meetings!

Reading Eggs

The Reading Eggs program focuses on a core reading curriculum of phonics and sight words using skills and strategies essential for sustained reading success.

Reading Eggs can be accessed through the internet or can be downloaded onto your device. Each student has an individual login, which tracks their reading progress.

Foundation have had a go at logging onto Reading Eggs this week during our reading groups. In the coming week, we will be pasting each students reading eggs login into their diaries. This will give you access for at home if you choose to use it.

If you have any questions about this program, please don't hesitate to pop in and ask.
