Dear Parents and Students,

The new year has started at a great pace and many events and activities have highlighted the first 4 weeks of school. I have been really impressed at how our new students at Year 10 and 11 have adjusted to life at JMSS, made new friends and are already participating in many of the opportunities available.

The swimming sports were once again most successful with new JMSS records being set in the pool and the senior round robin saw JMSS sending out teams in Cricket, Baseball, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Tennis

Year 12 Camp and Important Dates

The Year 12 camp was once again a great success and this years, year 12 group have been getting to know their teachers, learning about key aspects of the year as well as listening to some inspiring speakers including Luke Atkins an athlete who has represented Australia in two different sports and Abdi Aden a refugee from war torn Somalia. There was a big focus on building team skills and all students participated in a range of team based activities designed to get them to know others in the cohort better.

All year 12 students have been given a VCE handbook that contains all policies relevant to their final year as well as a list of important dates such as when tertiary entrance is due as well as exam periods and the GAT. Students have been told to share this document with their parents especially as more than half this years cohort are the first in their family to do year 12.

Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management Plans

A reminder for parents that if your child has asthma or has anaphylaxis then there should be a review of the management plan for these conditions with your doctor and an updated plan sent to our registrar Trish Shaw Elliott. All management plans for  asthma and anaphylaxis must be updated annually.

The Year 10 Geotour

Last Tuesday all year 10 students were taken on a customised tour of the city to look at a range of rocks and rock types. Our students were accompanied by 16 members of the Earth, atmosphere and Environment department at Monash University and I would like to thank all the JMSS staff and EA+E department of Monash for creating an excellent event. I was lucky enough to accompany 12 budding scientist who are experts on identifying intrusive volcanic rocks. They are pictured below at the 8 hour day monument constructed of granodiorite!

Canvas Info night for Year 10 parents

A reminder for parents of our new year 10’s that you should have received an email about the Canvas information session at JMSS on Monday March 3. Any details about the evening can be obtained from Mr Chris Mann.
