School Sport

School Cricket

School cricket starts this weekend. Largs Bay School has nominated 2 Kanga teams, C Grade and B Grade. Thank you to the parents and coaches who are supporting cricket.

The cricket programme is subject to change and parents should regularly check the fixture.

The website all provides venue details, coach details and and rules for the competition. Good luck to our teams.

School Basketball

This year we have nominated 11 teams (76 players) in the local miniball competition .

Teams played their first games last night and for some students, their first game ever! Thanks to the parents who volunteered to coach this year. We expect all parents to support at games and help with scoring and managing teams.

A full programme will be available within the next few weeks. Please check your child's bag regularly for programme updates. It is anticipated that  programmes will be emailed to families and placed on the Skoolbag App.

SCHOOL SPORT SA - State Trials

Interstate selection information including trial details and the nomination process is available on each specific sports page from the sports and competitions page. The nomination process must be completed before the sport’s first selection trial or by the date shown on the specific sports page.

Not all sports have an online nomination – make sure that you follow the correct process.

Selection and trials

Nominees should possess well-above average ability and experience. Sports coordinators (Mr Burge) will give interested students the necessary information and talk about the strict selection requirements. Any selection in a team must have the principal's endorsement.

Nominations for state trials mean that you agree to attend the trials.

Students will be expected to attend trials in Adelaide at their own expense.

School Sport SA will enter teams in the sports listed on the School Sport SA website. Please check age limits carefully.

Physical Education     2018

Physical Education will provide the foundation for competent and confident participation in a range of physical activities. The fundamental movement skills to be developed through Health and Physical Education include: loco motor and non-loco motor skills — rolling, balancing, sliding, jogging, running, leaping, jumping, hopping, dodging, galloping and skipping.

Object control skills — bouncing, throwing, catching, kicking and striking.

These will be taught through sport specific skill and game play development (Year 3-7) and through teaching Fundamental Movement Skills and minor games (R-2).

The 3-7 students have completed term 1 fitness testing and have now moved on to T-Ball / Softball, whilst the junior primary classes have been playing minor games, developing team work with parachute play and working on throwing skills.

SAPSASA and School Sport - Term 1

Term 1 is a busy time for the many sports minded students at school. SAPSASA comes under the School Sport SA umbrella and together they administer a range of sports. Sports offered are generally for students turning 10 or older with district representative teams being focused on year 6 and 7 students.  This term we will have students representing the school in swimming and athletics. Senior students have the opportunity to try out for the Port SAPSASA softball teams.

We also have school sports beginning this week, with students from R-7 playing basketball (13 teams ) and cricket (4 teams). We also have 65 students who have begun athletics training on Wednesday and Thursdays through the Sporting Schools program offered by Athletics Australia.

FITCLUB

Fit Club is held Tuesday lunch times in the hall, students can choose to spend their lunch break doing a workout that will focus on core strength and aerobic fitness. We have used the app Swork It Kids, and I would recommend it to parents who want to get their children to be more active.

Here are some photos from this week’s work out.
