Year 11 Captains' Report
We’re finally nearing the end of our year, with our exams right off the horizon, so I hope everyone is starting to review and study. Of course, it is imperative that we all still try to attend our lessons and keep up our attendance, because how would any of us go to exciting excursions, if we didn’t attend school?
These past few weeks we’ve had many excursions to the city for many of our VCE students. One of the many was the trip to the Governor House for our VCE Legal Studies students. This trip was a chance for our students to learn more about the Australian parliamentary system, the current area of study that they have been going through in class. The students went on a small tour around the Governor House and the Governor’s husband, had given our students a talk about their role and the jobs around the place. We hope that this excursion had given great insight into the workings of our government and that our students, had the opportunity to learn many things.
Similarly, we had a Physics excursion for our 3/4 Physics students to the Synchrotron. The excursion gave insight into applications of lasers and light diffraction. This excursion gave our students practical experience and was hopefully incredibly educational for them, giving them an opportunity to see how theories can be applied.
We had even more excursions for our Science classes. one of them being a trip for our 3/4 Biology students to GTAC; the Gene Technology Access Centre. For those that didn’t know, GTAC also stands for the four nucleotides found within DNA (Guanine, Thymine, Adenine and Cytosine)! This trip to GTAC was definitely a helpful experience for our Biology students, giving them a chance to be hands on and interact with the technology needed, for genetic and protein research.
We hope that these excursions were an eye-opening and educative experience for everyone who participated, giving all of us a view on the application of what is being studied.
Enough about what’s been happening outside the school, what about inside?
On Thursday 12 September, the SRC will be holding an event for R U OK? During lunchtime, there will be many events that promote positivity and having meaningful conversations, something that many of us neglect. There will be meditation, exercise, quick conversations as well as hot drinks, merchandise and baked goods for sale. This day will be a great opportunity to speak to people you may never have before, and we encourage everyone to wear a yellow accessory to spread the word to ‘Trust the signs, Trust your gut and ask, R U OK’.
As we near the end of Term 3, all students are putting in lots of hard work to complete their assessments and prepare for next year. Some of these students will even be giving others, the opportunity to view their work, such as the Year 11 Music and Theatre Studies classes.
On Thursday 5 September, the Music class held a performance night, where they showcased their group performances. that featured their interpretation of a specific artist. It was awesome to see our friends doing something they are passionate about and seeing all their dedication come to life.
During the beginning of Term 4, the Theatre Studies class will be performing their class production of ‘House on Fire’. This is a student run play with students taking on every role from, acting to set to direction. Rehearsals are well underway and we are all very excited to see this fantastic performance. More details to come closer to the date.
As we finish up Term 3, we remind all students to keep working hard and to talk to your teachers, to ensure you remain on track for the rest of the year.
