ST ANDREWS TEAM HEADS OFF

TO THE GOLD COAST FOR CSEN NATIONALS

Over the last few months, fourteen talented St Andrews students went through rigorous Victorian State team tryouts and were eventually selected to represent Victoria in their chosen sports of Netball, Soccer and Basketball. The teams then headed up north to the Gold Coast, Queensland, to join their respective teams and compete in the CSEN  Nationals. Over 300 students flew in from all around Australia to compete over 5 intense days to earn the title of National Champions. Overall Victoria faired quite well but New South Wales was clearly the dominant sporting State. And as Mr Farmer said, "Elite sport is tough physically but our students never tossed in the towel".

Congratulations to; Joseph Kuhlmann, Guaransh Makhija, Jack Moody, Jason Lam, Sam Sires,

Wesley Forward, Brendan Lam, Julia Pajor, Ella Cassidy, Andrea Chai, Charlotte Waldron,

Leilani Beovich, Samantha O’Donnell and Charli-Rose Morris for representing Victoria and St Andrews.

A special acknowledgement goes to Andrea Chai for receiving the Netball coaches award for her determination and coach-ability. Well done Andrea!

The Victorian Boys State team finished fourth overall and made Mr Farmer proud. Well done boys!

Finally, a big thank you to the teachers for coordinating, soothing sore muscles and disappointments and taking care of everyone involved.

ST ANDREWS NETBALL CLUB

The St Andrews Netball Club has had a great 2019 Winter season. With over 20 new girls joining the club this year it is exciting to see the amount of enthusiasm and energy they participate with each week. They have been working hard in their weekly training sessions to improve their skills and teamwork so they can be more competitive at Saturday games.

We have had 4 new junior coaches also start the year coaching our U/11 teams. These coaches have been much loved by the netballers they mentor and have done an outstanding job at coaching their teams and teaching many new netballers the rules and skills of the game.

I would personally like to thank all of our netball coaches and umpires for their dedication and hard work. They do a tremendous job and our club would not exist with out their ongoing support.

On Tuesday the 11th June the netball club held a COON Cheese Toastie fundraiser to help raise money for more training and game day equipment including bibs, balls and first aid kits. This was a very successful day with the club raising over $900. We also saw an iconic netball game between the Staff and VCE students, with of course the staff coming out on top with a 17-12 victory. Thank you to all the students and parents who supported the club in purchasing a Cheese Toastie or drink. Your donation is greatly appreciated.

As the season is coming to a close, we have our U/11 round robin happening on Saturday 22ndof June, whilst 2 teams are heading into semi-finals on the same day. We wish all our players the best of luck as they head into their finals campaign.
