AUDIENCE MESMERISED BY METAMORPHOSES

Three stunning performances were given by the Year 11 Theatre Studies students in their powerful performance of Metamorphoses.  A play that centres around a group of laundresses who tell each other stories from Ovid’s Metamorphoses – ancient Roman myths. Some are happy, some are tragic, some are hilarious. But there are lessons to be learned from each of these fables.

The student thespians were:

Katelyn Farmer, Karin Siahay, Becky Schenker, Tiffany Adam, Lachlan Ahearn, Amy Muggeridge, Chloe Iskandar, Isabella Rakers, Amber Swank, Raelyn Ooi and Jolie Wong.

Audiences were amazed at the pathos, drama, humour and quality of performances.

One audience member was quoted as saying;

"Our Year 11 Theatre Studies students were outstanding tonight

...I literally laughed out loud (big for me),

I cried and was so scared (enter Amy as hunger!).

The Set design, makeup, costumes and really difficult script were all amazing."

Well done Year 11 students; you've set the bench mark high for St Andrews plays.

SMALL PEOPLE BIG INSTRUMENTS

There's only one thing to do when you're confronted with a challenge bigger than yourself and that's to just go for it! Thats exactly what the year 2s did when Mrs Metcalfe presented them with a giant double bass. They all jumped at the opportunity to give it a go and loved it. Who knows... St Andrews may have a budding symphony  bassist in its midst.

AMAZING MIDDLE SCHOOL ARTISTS

Congratulations to all of the wonderful Middle School Artists who have been working very hard! As we explore the goodness of our Creator and His Light that shines in and through us, we have researched the work of Marc Martin, M.C. Escher and contemporary ceramic artists.

Year 6 have created Mini Watercolour Worlds. These have involved the use of very small brushes (fine motor control) with watercolour paint to show all the very many things in our lives that God cares for. They are currently working on a collaborative project called Giant Wings, each painting a graded ‘feather’ to bring together the symbolism that our Mighty God keeps us in His protection.

Year 7 have each made a ceramic replica of their house (having made a paper model based on real plans!). It is exciting to see all of the problem solving and constant modifications in the process. These little houses will have a candle that shines out of the many holes to describe how our lives and homes need to shine for Jesus – with His power and for His glory!

Year 8 are reflecting on the works of M.C. Escher skillfully drawing an ‘Infinity Loop’ where an object breaks free of the rotational symmetry tessellation they created! Lots of challenging mathematical thinking, lots of draw, rotate, draw, repeat!

Keep Creating,

Mrs. Heading
