PREPS VISIT ARCARE - "it was the best thing"

St Andrews Preps (both classes) walked over to Arcare and sang a few songs! The children loved their first excursion and the joy on the faces of the residents was beautiful!

One man thanked us at the end and said “It was the best thing that had happened around there for a long time.” Jacquie, the Arcare worker also said she was so pleased to see the joy on so many faces as we sang to the residents.

It was pretty easy for us to organise. We sing all the time so we just picked some songs (6 I think- but they’re short songs), had a few practices, did the excursion forms via Care Monkey and went for a walk with a couple of Learning Assistants (but a couple of parents would work too).

We will definitely visit again next term- with a few new songs and some of the old favourites.

I’m sure Jacquie would be happy for other Year levels to visit too. The room was great! It was on Level 3 and much bigger than the space we’ve had previously. We were the “entertainment” before the residents enjoyed “High Tea” so the people who came were very receptive. Jacquie met us at the front when we arrived and the whole experience was very positive. The Preps even got a ride in the elevator.

TARRAWARRA MUSEUM

On Friday 17th of May, the year 4 students went on an art excursion to Tarrawarra Museum of Art and Badger Weir Picnic Area.

We spent a beautiful morning admiring and sketching God's amazing nature, and learning and looking at artwork created by some talented artists. After lunch we even went on a little hike along Badger Creek and did some more drawing. It was a fun excursion enjoyed by all!

YEAR 2s SHARE STORIES WITH PREPS

The stories were written by the Year 2s, edited and then made into books with illustrations. The Year 2 students worked on their story reading skills before visiting the Preps. It was lovely to see the sharing of stories, bringing a connection between the two year levels.

LAKEWOOD NATURE WALK

On Tuesday, 4th June, Year 1 students set off for a nature walk to Lakewood Nature Reserve.  Year 1s are learning all about natural, constructed and managed features of places, living things and habitats.  As Year 1s went exploring the reserve, they discovered many animals that made their home at Lakewood Reserve as well as animals that had strange names, such as the Pobblebonk Frog and the scientific name for the Australian magpie, Cracticus tibicen.  Students also viewed tadpoles in their habitat, found nests and burrows.  Students then came back to school to draw a 'bird's eye view' map of the nature walk, which had to include, natural, constructed and managed features of their walk.

Have a look at the wonderful pictures of our expedition and some of the marvelous mapping masterpieces!
