CAITLYN'S GOT GIRL POWER

Congratulations to Caitlyn Smith (9H) for being selected to participate in the Melbourne School of Engineering 'Girl Power in Engineering and IT Program'. This year over 150 Year 9 students applied for this highly sought after program with only a select few being offered places.  To gain entry students were required to submit both written and video submissions that demonstrated their achievements, interests and passion for the engineering/IT field. Once accepted applicants must commit to a  4-year program from Year 9 through to Year 12 where they learn about careers in  STEM, take part in hands-on workshops, receive mentoring from the University of Melbourne, hear lectures from industry and academic professionals, gain work experience in the field and connect to a network of likeminded individuals.

What a wonderful achievement and a fantastic opportunity; well done Caitlyn !

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT EXCURSION

The Year 12s had a great day learning everything about the operations systems of Chobani, Australia Post and even Krispy Kreme! They were fortunate to hear from the respective operations managers and scored some free yogurt and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts!

We even had time to have a cultural experience in Dandenong with Afghan Kebabs. Quite the experience for a couple of the students who had never tasted anything like this before.

All in all a great day out!

CSEN THEATRE SPORTS

On the 10th and 13th of May 2019, three teams of performing arts students partook in the Theatre Sports competition run by CSEN. Theatre Sports is a competition based entirely around improvised acting, or ‘improv’ as it is better known. Improv is notoriously known for its difficulty as it requires the performers to come up with acts on the spot based on a given scenario. Scenes can either succeed or flop, based on the ideas thought up by the students. Lucky for us, our theatre sports teams this year consists of groups filled with improv geniuses filled with creatively and a heart for acting.

'Improv Airlines' (and yes, they did dress up), our only senior team, managed to place 3rd in the finals. This team comprised of Becky, Amy, Amber, Holly, Bryan and Alex are all very proud of how their performance, as they had some very tough competition.

'Mission Improv-able' (get it?), one of our two junior teams placed 2nd after a hard-fought tiebreaker against another school team. Although they narrowly missed 1st place and are still slightly disappointed over that realisation, we are proud of them nonetheless and we know that as they become senior teams, they will continue to impress. This team included the students Chaz, Sam, Sophia, Sienna and Kiriaki.

Our final team on this endeavour was 'You’re Welcome' (what can I say except you’re welcome!) manned by Kayle, Charlie, Kassia, Michelle and Roselyn. 'You’re Welcome' unfortunately did not place, and only missed it by a narrow margin. This team had some amazingly hilarious acts and will only get better with each year of experience until they are being an example to the future junior teams.

Overall, this was an amazing experience for the students involved and a great way to gain some acting experience. Here’s to this years group and all the fun we had together!

VCE FORMAL FUN, FOOD AND FASHION!

It was a fantastic night of fun, fashion and food for all the St Andrews senior class. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have fun away from the classroom, cut some moves on the dance floor and dress up in their finest. Teachers could hardly recognise their students as they walked into the venue dressed to the nines. Who won the best dressed on the night? A difficult choice; we'll let you choose from the photos below.
