Happenings around Largs Bay School

Rooms 5 and 11

This year Rooms 5 and 11 will be working along side each other as buddy classes.

At our recent meeting we created clouds, rainbows, suns, rain and lightening for the reception topic "Weather In My World". The year 6/7's enjoyed working with the youngest members of the school and began creating lasting relationships early.

We look forward to growing as learners together and supporting each other over the course of the year.

Room 3 & Room 27

Together we will grow!

Wow what a great start to the year! The new Receptions from room 3 had a chance to meet their year 6/7 buddies on Wednesday. Many of the students really enjoyed getting to know some of the older students around the school. They worked together to make a handprint flower mural, which will be displayed outside room 3. Throughout the year their buddies will help the new receptions settle into school life.

Room 20 & Room 33

Room 20 have been getting to know their buddies in room 33. We visited their class this week and worked cooperatively to make a book about what school would be like without rules, we had lots of fun coming up with some creative ideas!

Room 29

I felt great doing these group skills because the team was working together and when someone made a mistake the team said,"That's all right just try again and keep going". The team cooperated well.

Today we got into groups of about six. Our task was to work cooperatively to plan.

Room 31

Room 31 students have been learning about each other by showing photos, teddy bears and other things and explaining why they are special to us. We have discovered very interesting things about our class mates.

Physical Education

Physical Education will provide the foundation for competent and confident participation in a range of physical activities. The fundamental movement skills to be developed through Physical Education include:

loco motor and non-loco motor skills — rolling, balancing, sliding, jogging, running, leaping, jumping, hopping, dodging, galloping and skipping.

object control skills — bouncing, throwing, catching, kicking, striking.

These will be taught through sport specific skill and game play development (Year 3-7) and through teaching Fundamental Movement Skills and minor games (R-2).

All classes with Yr 3-7 students have completed fitness testing which consists of Beep Test (endurance run), Vertical Leap, Sit Ups and Plank. The tests are repeated at the beginning of each term with the aim of beating previous scores. Term 1 results will be coming home in the coming weeks.

As 2016 is an Olympic Games year primary students will be learning some Olympic sports such as handball, hockey, volleyball and athletics. The athletics component also allows for trials to be conducted for the school athletics team that will compete in the SAPSASA District Athletics Day in week 8 of this term.
