Year 9

Year 9 Report

The much anticipated Year 9 City excursions ran over the first three weeks of Term 2. Each homeroom spent a day exploring the City of Melbourne visiting locations of interest including the University of Melbourne, The Shrine of Remembrance, Docklands and the MCG. The students cherished their new found independence and a sense of accomplishment was felt by all as they returned home to their southern suburban abodes.

Last Friday the Year 9s travelled to St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne for the Tercentenary celebration with Year 9 students from other Melbourne-based  Lasallian schools. The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Comensoli. For many, it was their first time inside the magnificent basilica and many were struck by the size and grandeur on display. The day also entailed a fleeting visit to the magnificent Exhibition Gardens before a session run by the National Evangelisation Team at the Academy of Mary Immaculate in Fitzroy. Once again the students were a credit to St Bede’s in the way that they conducted themselves at all stages throughout the day.

The ACC football team remain undefeated after the first four rounds of the season and, after their convincing win against Whitefriars yesterday, are on track for a home grand final. The soccer team has also started the season well, with a come from behind 4-3 victory against Parade yesterday. It was encouraging to see so many students trying out for a place in both of these teams. With 250 students in Year 9, positions in the teams are hard to come Well done to those students who were lucky enough to gain a spot in one of the two teams.

The Year 9 mid-year examinations begin next Thursday, May 30. I wish all students success in these examinations. Please be aware that for a student to accelerate into VCE Unit 1 & 2 in Year 10, there is a pre-requisite of an overall Semester 1 result of 80% or above in three of the five Core subjects, one of them being English.

It is pleasing to see the vast majority of students wearing the correct winter uniform. A point of difference this year is that the spray jacket can only be worn on wet days. We thank you for your efforts in helping to get your son organised and monitoring the state of his uniform as the year progresses.
