Community Sports Day
The Year 5/6 Students had a fantastic day on Friday at the Community Sports day. They competed in a 8 activities for the day, from Bowlerama through to goal kicking, super quoits and even a basketball shootout. There was lots of positive reports about the day. Thank you to the Year 5/6 Teachers Mr Rosco and Mrs Seeman for helping on organising the day and supervising the students. Also a big thanks to Beck and Rhonda for also supporting a group. Without your help these days wouldn't go ahead.
Gymnasitics
Starting on the 29th of Novemeber we will be learning some basic gymnastics skills like log roll, forward roll, scorpian kicks, motorbike, and lots more. As mentioned in the last newsletter there is a few housekeeping rules to remember:
*Long hair must be tied back
*No Jewellery please
*Shoes are taken off so not stockings
*Comfortable clothes no jeans please.
Gymnastics is the foundation of all sports. This is true whether it be traditional sports or the newer "extreme sports." Training in gymnastics leads to a more well-rounded athlete, and those with a background in gymnastics naturally excel in other sports. The following sections outline the benefits of gymnastics training.
Strength
Developing an optimum level of strength will make all athletes better at their discipline. The sport of gymnastics is responsible for developing some of the strongest and most agile athletes in the world! Men AND women alike!
Flexibility
Too many athletes overlook the importance of flexibility in relation to their particular sport. Gymnasts cannot afford to do so, as every event hinges on this ability. Those athletes who do recognize the benefits of a flexible body have a true edge over the competition.
Spatial Awareness
Gymnastics teaches the fundamentals of spatial awareness that apply to ALL sports, including and especially skateboarding, snowboarding, and other extreme sports. Being aware of how your body is moving and where it is in relation to the ground is crucial, and is the key to preventing injury.
Technique
Because of gymnastics' great variety of skills, its techniques can be found in many other sports.
Form
Gymnastics places an enormous emphasis on developing perfect form and balance in every aspect of the sport. These elements are also vital to a number of other activities such as cheerleading, dance, and the martial arts.
Multi-cultural day
What a wonderful opportunity we had in Science on Multi-cultural day to be involved in creating fireworks and paper rockets for the Fourth of July as part of looking at America. Students who moved through my activities were able to experiemnt with paper rockets. It was great to see students modify their rockets if their first attemtps to launch them into the air did not work. Our activities in Science were 100% sustainable and did not impact on the environment on the day.
Being sustainable is all around us.
I was extemely excited to see that our local Aldi supermarket offer a free battery recycling service . Ay brand of AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries (both rechargeable and
non-rechargeable) are accepted.
Multicultural Day
What a fantastic day was had by all. The students all dressed up and looked fantastic. The activities representing other countries were terrific and the food that students shared were delicious. A lot of creativity from both students and their parents was obvious on the day. Once again, our performers were a huge hit. The students loved dancing and clapping to the African drums. It was very noisy but a lot of fun. A huge thank you to all the teachers, parents and students for all the effort that you put into the day.
Indonesian Fact
Did you know that there are over 800 languages spoken in Indonesia? Bahasa Indonesia is the national language and the language taught at KPS. However, children in Indonesia often first learn their local language and then Bahasa once they start attending school.
Students in Indonesia also learn other languages at school, including English.
