Year 4 Report

What's happening in Term 4 in Year 4

Reading

We are super excited because it is Book Week this term (week starting 19th October) so Year 4 students get your costumes ready for Thursday 22nd October!  Throughout the term we will be reading lots of award winning and short-listed books and exploring fiction and non-fiction texts. We will be sharing with our classmates our opinions and thoughts about what we are reading and reflecting on our thinking in our reading journals, on onenote and on flipgrid. Weekly Lexile (Scholastic Learning Zone) home reading continues with the expectation that students read and attempts at least 3 quizzes throughout the term. Our aim this term  is to work hard to achieve our individual reading goals and share our love of reading.

Writing

This term in writing, students will be writing recounts, focusing on the structures and features. They will have some fun practicing using writing tools such as show, don't tell, to help make their writing more descriptive and vivid.

Students will continue to explore figurative language as a tool to help them become the amazing authors we know they can be!

This term we will continue to focus on individual writing goals, which will ensure all students continue to grow as writers.

Maths

This term in maths, we will be having some fun working on our understanding of Chance and Data. We will use a lot of hands on activities and games to investigate the concept, then record our results using a variety of graphs and tables.

We will also spend some time looking at mass and capacity, and continue to work on our understanding of numbers and how they work together.

This term we will continue our focus on automatic recall of number facts (times tables, number bonds, doubles etc). Students will be able to use these basic facts in all areas of maths, helping them to further develop their understanding and enjoyment of maths.

Inquiry

This term we are excited to be visiting South America and exploring the plants, animals, climate and culture of this fascinating land. We have started the term off with a virtual tour of the continent. We are comparing it to other places in the world, including Australia. We will be researching and investigating topics of interest and sharing our learning in a variety of ways, for example, sway, powerpoint, flip grid, posters, travel brochures etc. We can't wait to share with you all the amazing things we discover.
