House News - Delphinus

Our 2020 school year got off to a normal start with all of the usual activities that occur in Term 1 happening. Little did we know that as we came to the end of the term that what we considered “normal” was not going to be, as we started our Term 2 with remote learning.

However, after six weeks everyone returned to school and we were able to get underway with face to face teaching and Delphinus House kicked off the MAD Day fundraising by selling hot chips, which proved to be very successful.

The Delphinus House Captains Natarsha Acton and Athena Gear were ably assisted by the Middle Year Leaders in Isa Olsen and Chris Kelly. Chris was our cook and he did a great job especially when we were struggling to feed the many students who lined up to buy chips and support our fundraising efforts.

Natarsha (featured right) has written some of her thoughts about the year up to this point.

“Through the ups and downs of 2020, being a House Captain has been the joy that has helped pull me through the year so far. Even though we have not been able to do as many activities and events as a cohort, with the use of “Microsoft Teams” we have been able to stay connected and have mini assemblies to keep us all informed. It’s definitely been a change, but with the opportunity like the “hot chip” sale that we were able to run, it really showed how the St John’s Community’s end goal is to fund raise for those more effected by this virus and that other world issues still stand. I feel we are blessed to have the opportunity to come to school and stay safe through this virus as we have access to so many resources that not everyone else does. I hope that everyone is able to find some sort of upside, no matter what it may be, to look to for guidance as we hopefully near the end of this pandemic. Also that this time more than ever is a time to look to our teachers for help and assistance because they are there to provide support to get us through the year.”

Isa Olsen (featured left above) is one of our Middle Year Leaders, sometimes it is hard to encourage  students to put their hand up for a leadership position at Year 9 or 10 but Isa hopes to attain skills and attributes which she believes are valuable and significant and to utilize those skills to encourage and support all of the students in Delphinus to continue to achieve academic and athletic excellence that many students in Delphinus have obtained over the years.

On behalf of the Delphinus Leaders and students I would like to wish everyone all the best for the rest of the year and hopefully we will finish 2020 on a much brighter note.
