Awards

Thanks to all those families that have tuned into our Virtual Assemblies over the last few weeks.  We want to try to keep this connection up for those that can't make it into school.  I am unsure how assemblies will look next term yet, but will keep you updated.  Pictures from our last few virtual assemblies have been put in classes on Class Dojo.

Student Wellbeing Worker

Hi Glenore Grove State School.

My name is Kyandra and I am your new Student Wellbeing Worker.

I have been getting to know all of your beautiful boys and girls and love hearing all their lovely stories.

As a Student Wellbeing Worker, my role is to provide social, emotional, practical support and linkages to the broader community. I will be working alongside Mrs HB, teachers, other school staff and ICYS (Ipswich Community Youth Service) to meet the needs of the students, parents, caregivers and am working towards strengthening the community connection.

I will be here on Tuesdays and Thursdays and am available via email or the school phone.

I eagerly await the opportunity to converse with each and every one of you.

Toilet Block

I wanted to share some photos of our upgraded toilet block.  It looks great & Mr HB spent time over the holidays & this term painting the doors as well.  The upgrade cost about $50 000!  We were lucky enough to have a grant through the P&C, they donated some funds & the school saved up over a couple of years so we can afford the upgrade.  While it is still not the Ritz, it's pretty flash compared to what it used to be.

It is sad that I am still continually talking to students about treating the toilets with respect.  We have students that empty the paper hand towels & spread it over the floor, boys that are putting toilet rolls into the urinals & each day the soap dispensers are emptied, either onto the floor or into the sink.  While it is a safety issue, it is also not respectful or responsible.  It is also such a waste of money to have these resources wasted.

I have ordered some automatic soap dispensers to see if this will help with the issue & we are again doing some explicit teaching around the appropriate use of the toilet block.  I spoke with all the boys this week about these issues again.  So this week we have taken soap dispensers out of the toilet & given 1 to each classroom, so students are taking the dispenser with them when they go in class time.  During lunch breaks I have a staff member supervising toilets during breaks.

I am requesting your support in talking with your child regarding appropriate use of the toilets, and getting in and out quickly.  I am sure together we can see an improvement in student behaviour.
