3/4s Learning from Home

Term 3 Week 3

To parents / guardians of grade 3/4s,

First of all, the team would like to share an appreciation for the way in which our students have transitioned back into remote learning. Their positive attitude and adaptability is most impressive, and something we can all take inspiration from.

With wellbeing firmly in mind, the students have enjoyed playing games and reconnecting with their grades on WebEx this week.  Alongside this, they have formed smaller Tribes groups that will meet at different times throughout the week and provide further opportunities for the students to maintain their relationships within the grade.

One positive to come from remote learning is the fact that parents and guardians now have an insight into the curriculum we deliver and access to a range of resources we may use to support the learning process. With that in mind, here is an overview of the term ahead.

Maths

  • Multiplication and division
  • Shape
  • Coding and angles
  • Area
  • Fractions and decimals

Reading

The students will be virtually looking at the concept of literature circles. In class, this provides an opportunity for students to enjoy literature together, practise comprehension strategies and share reflections. This will operate in a slightly different way due to the circumstances we now find ourselves in; however, we will utilise technology to provide a similar experience.

The students will focus on the following strategies:

  • Visualising
  • Predicting
  • Making Connections
  • Summarising

We also encourage students to read independently and log their reading in the Independent Reading Log assigned on Google Classroom.

Writing

The students will begin the term by looking at the Word Choice. Through these lessons, the students will explore concepts such as noun and verb groups and develop their ability to convey their ideas in a precise and descriptive manner.

Alongside these focused activities, the students will also be given time to write independently and collate their ideas in a digital writing book. During this time, they are encouraged to practise the skills explored in the Word Choice sessions.

The students also have access to www.studyladder.com. On this website they will be assigned spelling and grammar activities on a weekly basis.

Additional Curriculum Areas

Alongside the core subjects, the students will also have access to additional subjects each day, ranging from science, student-led inquiry and topical/ news related activities.

To conclude, the team would like to thank all parents and carers for their continued support at this difficult time and would like to remind them that we are always contactable if issues should arise.

All the best
