Science

“Wherever there is a child, there is curiosity, and where there is curiosity there is science.”

Congratulations to everyone for a positive start to Online Learning once again this term. The students have made a wonderful start in regards to their engagement in the tasks presented to them. Term 3 brings another term of new and exciting learning in Science where we will be investigating the Biological Sciences as our focus.

National Science Week 2020 is coming!

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. This year Science Week ‘Deep Blue: innovation for the future of our oceans’is the school theme for National Science Week from the 15th to the 23rd August 2020. The theme encourages students to become fascinated by our planet’s oceans.

This year Science Week events and activities to support and encourage student engagement related to the theme will be held online such as virtual tours, and web links. They will use videos, stories images and other information to explore and investigate oceans.

National Science Week Science Scavenger Hunt

As part of National Science Week 2020, InquiBox has developed an at-home science scavenger hunt pack to get the whole family involved in some science fun. If you would like to be part of the scavenger hunt register at the following link.

Our reflections

Last term the students investigated Physical Science through different topics and on their return to school at the end of term 2 reflected on their learning. The students were also given the opportunity to discuss what they were looking forward to learning through Biological Science as we prepared for our return in Term 3.

Some of the student’s reflections follow:

Second term has been hard. We have had to deal with COVID 19 and were forced to work from home for 8 weeks. One of the best things we did at home was Science. This term we have been focusing on PHYSICAL SCIENCE. In this subject we have focused on light, rainbows, refraction and many other things that relate to this topic.

Finn

Personally, I think my first semester at Trinity has been fun. Science was pretty new to me since my previous school didn’t have Science as a specialist subject. This term was great! I think Science is interesting and I am looking forward to studying Biological Sciences next term!

Mia

Due to the coronavirus, we had to do learning from home. I really enjoyed doing some experiments and learning about conduction, convection and radiation. I had lots of fun doing Science online and learning interesting facts about heat and temperature.

Douglas

In Term 2 I enjoyed going on virtual excursions like the Melbourne Museum.

Nelson

It was so much fun doing experiments at home like dancing sultanas and making rainbows.

Serena

What are we are looking forward to in Term 3…

I am looking forward to learning about animals hibernating and migrating. Also to discover new things about animals such as their diets and much more.

Andy

In term 3, in Biological Science, I am looking forward to learning all about flora and fauna and how they work, photosynthesise and grow. I am also very excited about discovering bacteria like yeast and other types of fungi.

Leah

I want to learn about animals and plants.

Rocky

I am looking forward to learning about looking after our environment in Term 3.

Christian

I am looking forward to understanding the growth and survival of living things and how they are affected by the physical conditions of their environment in biological science. I am also looking forward to being able to observe the growth of fungi, being able to investigate how changing the physical conditions for plants impacts their growth and survival, and that I can research organisms that live in extreme environments.

Estelle

Looking forward to another term of learning in Science.
