Foundation Celebrations and Creative Hands on Learning

Foundation students had a great day celebrating ‘100’ days of school. This year was a bit different having learning at school and at home.

The Year 12’s came to help us write books about 100, make 100 glasses and necklaces made out of 100 Cheerios. Miss Brennan helped us make a huge 100 and Miss Ryan made us do 100 jumps and fairy steps.

We read a book “I’ll teach my dog 100 words’ and decided it would be very tricky to teach a dog to talk! We went home with ‘100’ hats, glasses, necklaces and balloons. What a busy day we’ve had!

With the absence of Primary Assemblies, Ms Thorton has presented the Foundation students with their reading certificates in class.

Suzen Musa recieved a certificate for 50 nights of reading. Tayler Hartas has earnt himself two certificates for reaching 150 and 175 nights.

Merit certificates were given to Eliza Smith for being willing to learn and always listening to the instructions.

Toby Munn also received a merit certificiate, for greeting the teachers with a friendly smile and always following the morning routine.

Foundation students have thoroughly enjoyed their first lesson in the library.

They have also headed out of the classroom to get creative with their handwriting practice, writing their letter j with some chalk as well as painting their letters with water.

Back in the classroom and students have been busy focusing on retelling a story and sequencing the story, The Bad Tempered Ladybird.

Foundations students have also had some hands on fun in maths and enjoyed using playdough to help them practise their addition.

3/4 Reading Certificates

The 3/4 students have also been rewarded for their efforts in reading.

The following Year 3/4 students received reading certificates;

25 nights of reading certificates for Jack Smith, Christa Jain & Lily Eyles

50 nights of reading for Ayla Domaschenz, Jack Smith & Bailey Hartas

75, 100 & 125 nights of reading for Jack Smith & Bailey Hartas.

Bailey also received certificates for 150 and 175 nights of reading.

In Science this term, the 3/4 students are focusing on chemical sciences, specifically the changes of state to objects when you apply heat. We completed an experiment to see what would happen to chocolate, water and icypole sticks if we sat them in front of the heater. The students were amazed with the results and the changes they could see! We wrote a procedural text for this experiment and are looking forward to observing more changes throughout the term.

In Maths, we are focusing on fractions. We have been working really hard on improper fractions and mixed numerals. Our favourite thing about learning fractions is playing ‘MathMan.’ It’s like ‘PacMan’ but the PacMan can only eat the ghost that has a mixed numeral to match the improper fraction.

On Tuesday morning the 3/4 class participated in an visit from a Kid's Helpline counsellor, Brook, who spoke to us all the way from her desk at Kid's Helpline HQ in sunny Queensland via video conferencing. The students learned more about what Kids Helpline is and enjoyed some fun quizzes and games before launching into the topic of handling worries and feelings during Covid 19 times.

Mrs Eastwood and Miss Pearson were so proud of the students in the way they displayed our school values of being respectful and willing to learn as they shared discussion with one another in small groups as well as  asking great questions to Brook, all earning themselves a Roo Reward. Following the conference call Mrs E showed students how to access Kids Helpline from the link on the Edenhope College website wellbeing page and were all impressed to discover that there is someone at Kids Helpline to chat about any problem or worry big or small,  and to answer any question a young person might have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A big thanks to Mr Duncan for ensuring all the IT was in working order and remembering to take some Photos.
