Smiles All Round - Online Webinar and Workshop

Edenhope Library

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Edenhope Library’s moving date has been changed.

We will be closed for one week from 3 to 9 August while we move our collection and set up in our new space in the Edenhope & District Community Centre at 78 Elizabeth Street.

During that time, you will be able to access our digital collections via our website and apps, and you can still place holds online – if you need assistance with this, please phone 03 5382 1777. You can return your items in the after hour returns chute at 49 Elizabeth Street, but it would be helpful for us if you wait until after we have re-opened and return them at the new building. You can still return your items at our old address until prior to our move.

From August 9 our phone number will be 03 5585 1302.

We look forward to serving our community from our new location.

SUBMERGED: Stories of Australia’s Shipwrecks

When we open our doors at the new library, we will be showcasing this display from the Australian National Maritime Museum, highlighting shipwrecks of national, regional and local importance! Australia has over 11,000 shipwrecks - that’s roughly one wreck for every three kilometres of coastline. Submerged is presented by the Australian National Maritime Museum and the Australian Maritime Museums Council and is the result of a national project with workshops held across the country to develop the exhibition and to source shipwreck stories. Sixty eight shipwreck stories were nominated by 46 maritime museums and heritage institutions from around Australia with 14 of the most compelling stories selected to feature in the exhibition. Submerged – Stories of Australia’s Shipwrecks will be on display at Edenhope Library until 22 September. Entry to the exhibition is free. Edenhope Library, www.wrlc.org.au, 78 Elizabeth Street Edenhope, phone 03 5585 1302.

RIPPER READ: The Secret World of Wombats by Jackie French – Allen has loved wombats all his life, and he told me he absolutely loved this book, which taught him many things about them that he never knew.

HELPING STUDENTS ACCESS LIBRARY SERVICES

Many of the students in our local schools do not get the opportunity to visit a public library on a regular basis, but that doesn’t mean that their library isn’t available to them. You may not be aware that library membership provides free access to many excellent online databases and resources, including:

  • World Book online, with three levels of research for kids, students and advanced; this provides verified information for research projects
  • International Children’s Digital Library– these last two are a great way to expand the physical library and ensure remote kids still have great access to books
  • Story Box Library
  • Kanopy (films)
  • eBooks and eAudiobooks are available to download for FREE through our catalogue.

WOULD YOU RATHER HEAR IT THAN READ IT? The Library has a huge collection of audiobooks on CD or available for free MP3 download. This can be a great way to keep up the reading you love when you aren’t able to sit down with a good book; listen to an audiobook in the car, on the tractor (ideal for long stints during seeding and harvest!), while you walk or work out, if you’re incapacitated – in fact, you don’t need a reason or an excuse! You can borrow CD Audiobooks for 4 weeks. Come and check out what we’ve got.

Find out more at our website or get in touch with your local library branch. Please share this information with your school families, and help them gain greater access for their children.

WHO SAID LIBRARIES MATTER?

I was the kind of kid whose parents would drop him off at the local town library on their way to work, and I'd go and work my way through the children's area. Neil Gaiman
