Career & VET Report

VET in Schools 2021

Students in Years 9 and 10 have been introduced to the VET in Schools options available to them in 2021. Information regarding this may be found on the following link or,  accessed directly from the Year 9 and 10 Careers Google Classroom:

https://vet.llen.com.au/get-vet/

By following this link students are given an outline of all courses available to them. The handbook is available on this link which explains how VET in Schools works and the outlines of courses, the qualifications gained and the approximate cost of each course. Students are also aware that some VET courses including Sport and Recreation, Community Services and Engineering can form part of a VCE program and by completing the exam at the end of the second year will be used towards the students ATAR score in Year 12.

If Year 10 students intend studying for the VCAL certificate in Year 11 they must have a VET qualification in order to qualify for the Senior VCAL Certificate.

VET Certificates provide students with the opportunity to complete studies that are part of the first year training component for apprenticeships, and therefore Employers looking to hire apprentices tend to employ those applicants with VET qualifications.

This year due to COVID 19 restrictions students will attend information sessions via the LLEN website and can apply on on line for any course in 2021. A requirement of the application process is that students have a USI number.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

All students doing nationally recognised training need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This includes students doing Vocational Education Training (VET) delivered in secondary schools.

A USI is a reference number made up of numbers and letters.

Creating a USI is free. It creates a secure online record of your nationally recognised training that you can access anytime and anywhere, and it’s yours for life.

The USI is linked to the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Data Collection, and this means an individual’s nationally recognised training and qualifications gained anywhere in Australia, from different training organisations, will be kept all together.

The USI will:

  • link a student’s VET achievements, regardless of where in Australia they did the course
  • let students easily access secure digital transcripts of their achievements
  • give students more control over their VET information.

Application for a USI is done online, by going to: www.usi.gov.au

All students attending VET courses in Horsham and Longerenong will leave Edenhope at 7am and return at 5pm every Wednesday.

Students must have my approval of the course they have chosen before applying on line.

If you have any questions regarding VET in Schools please do not hesitate to contact me via XUNO or by phoning the School.

Skillsroad

Students can explore courses, occupations, and industries. They can also undertake a mini career quiz and research occupations based on their favourite subjects. Students will also be able to work through the new Ready to Reset online program, www.skillsroad.com.au

Year 12 VCE students

Next week students in VCE will begin the process of VTAC applications for University places in 2021.

Students have access to the following VTAC guide which provides all information needed for an application. Please take particular note of the SEAS section, which shows special consideration options available to students.

A link to a VTAC PowerPoint presentation for students and Parents may be found on the Year 12 Careers Google classroom.
