Message from Principal Sally

Happy New Year

Welcome back from the summer break and greetings to those who are new to North Melbourne Primary School. This newsletter is a fortnightly publication that shares our school communities stories, achievements, special events and concerns.

Here at North Melbourne Primary School we value being: Responsible, Inclusive, Sagacious and Ethical (RISE). Our RISE values are underpinned by the following beliefs and practices:

• All children can learn

• Learning outcomes will be maximised when children feel safe, connected and engaged at school

• Students are encouraged to be active and self-directed in their learning

• Our school values are reflected in all we do

I look forward to working alongside you all to create and support an engaging 2019 school year.

Open Classrooms

To kick off the year, we have ourOpen Classrooms afternoon which will be this Thursday 7th February from 3.30 to 5.30pm.

Parents and carers can meet their child’s 2019 teacher/s and experience their learning space. We encourage you to ‘pop-in’ and look at our vibrant and engaging learning spaces, introduce yourself  and say, 'Hi!' to our staff. Every year level room and most specialist rooms will be open.

Please note this is not a 'formal' parent-teacher interview but a time to familiarise yourself with your child's teacher and classroom location.  If you would like to discuss your child’s learning needs at a later date in the term, please organise a mutually convenient day/time directly with the classroom teacher.

School contact details can be found on our website here: CONTACT

You can find your child's direct teacher and an outline of the curriculum and activities for the term here: CURRICULUM.

We have excess school furniture (teacher desks, student tables and Flex orange ottomans etc.) This will be on display at the Open Classroom evening and available for you to take home. We would welcome  and appreciate a donation towards our new Art room furniture. Please make arrangements with me (Sally) on the afternoon.

The first Three Way Conference will be held at the beginning of Term 2 on Wednesday 1st May and Thursday 2nd May 2019. This is where you, your child, and their teacher meet together and discuss progress.

We look forward to seeing you there!

2019 Staff

We are pleased to have welcomed 17 new staff to our school.

New to our curriculum is the inclusion of AUSLAN language. This program has begun extremely positively with Kai as our lead teacher and Liam (Library Liam to many).  AUSLAN will be taught to year Prep to Year 3 as a Language Other Than English (LOTE) and Year 4 -6 will continue with Italian this year.

We also have two AUSLAN interpreters working with our school and a Visiting Teacher for hearing impaired students who will support and assist our students. We are very pleased about this new experience to our school community. Understanding diversity and inclusion is  a valuable life skill for us all.

The 2019 staffing list is located on our website here: STAFFING.
