Assistant Principal's Report

"Friends For Life"

Social skills Program

In Term 4 we are excited to begin   FRIENDS for Life. This  is a social skills and resilience building program that has been recognized by the World Health Organisation as an effective means to prevent anxiety for children aged 8-11. It is proven to reduce anxiety and provide participants with the tools to rise to life’s challenges, and make the most of setbacks and adversity. FRIENDS for Life also improves participants’ social and emotional skills, ability to focus, confidence, and the capacity to relax and regulate emotions. We have targeted the Year 4 students to be a part of this program which will run for Term 4.

FUN FRIENDS

Fun Friends will also be introduced for Year 1 student and by using fun, play-based group activities. Fun FRIENDS nurtures the child’s development by teaching them to engage resilience early on, encouraging them to thrive and enjoy school life.

This program will also run during Term 4.

SAVE THE DATE: Parent Information sessions:

There will also be parent education sessions presented by Kerrie Staun who facilitates these programs on:

Urban Farming

By now you may have seen some of the great work our year 4 students have been doing in our urban farm. They have been planting building and planning extension works to our farm area.

One have our plans has been thwarted by timber  thieves.

Last week we had to have an unsafe  tree cut down in the school grounds.. Students planned what we would be doing with the timber, planning  the next stage of our landscaping with Jenn Reed. They liaised with  the tree lopper and decided how the tree could be cut up ready to be a part of our landscaping.  Over the weekend someone came into the school and took all of our wood. It must have been taken away in a trailer or alike.

We are all very disappointed and upset.  If anyone saw anything or knows where our wood may be, please contact the office.

Fire Safety

The Foundation students enjoyed a visit from the Fire safety Officers from Mentone Fire station.  They learnt about  fire  safety and enjoyed the hose and water demonstration.
