All Saints and all Souls

On 1 November we remembered the Saints who have inspired others through the qualities they revealed in their lives: humility, a concern for justice, gentleness, purity of heart, mercy and courage. Two Saints of particular significance for our College are Saint Pope John XXIII and Saint Ignatius of Loyola and we especially remember their incredible impact on the world. On 2 November, we remembered all our loved ones who have gone to eternal life. This year we particularly pray for those families impacted by COVID-19 which has made it challenging to conduct funerals in the usual manner.

Fittingly, last weekend’s Gospel of the Beatitudes provided beautiful messages. This Gospel is often read at funerals and weddings and is both comforting and challenging. The Beatitudes describe ways of living that may be quite contrary to the values of the world. To be ‘poor in spirit’, rather than proud and dominant; to feel compassion because other people’s suffering; to have a passionate commitment for justice; to exercise mercy rather than taking advantage of those in an inferior position. It is those who are prepared to live in a vulnerable way who make the world a better place for all its people.

In many ways, the Beatitudes provide examples for all of us in the living of our daily lives. It can also be a sign of a growing maturity when these values become more prominent in every day living. At our College, our Year 12s are currently undertaking examinations. Our Year 11 students become the leadership presence in our school. Similarly, our expectations are that each other year level aspires to follow the example of those before them.

Travel Plans

As the COVID-19 pandemic is constantly evolving, sometimes rapidly, we encourage families to evaluate the necessity and impact of planned travel over the upcoming Christmas holiday break. For example, the Western Australian state government requires overseas travellers to undertake mandatory quarantine in a Perth hotel at their own expense.

Should you wish to travel, we ask that you consult the following websites and contact numbers to inform yourself about border restrictions, exemptions and quarantine requirements:
