We’ve had a great couple of weeks settling back into school. It has been fantastic that families have been supporting our activities and events by donating icy-poles for the Grade 5/6 students to fund raise, raising our school community spirit to celebrate the AFL grand final and the Grade 5/6 Mother/Daughter virtual event.  Veronica and I would also like to thank families for your second hand donations.  Used and quality school uniform remains hot property and if you are in a position to donate we will continue to do our best to help families.  Hopefully with the shops opening this week parents and students will be able to purchase much needed clothes and shoes.  If any families are experiencing financial difficulties please contact Veronica or myself and we can make a referral to State School Relief.

We have noticed that some children are tired when they arrive in the mornings. If you are looking for any tips to help strengthen routines and those challenging mornings we are available to help.

The Welfare Team was thrilled by the high response from our Grade 3/4 families interested in their child being a part of the social skills groups.  We have started the groups and I apologise for all the students who have missed out.  Respectful Relationship lessons are being taught across the whole school and teachers are already seeing shifts in children’s understanding of their friendships. One teacher told me she was impressed with some students responses, in particular, their ability to put themselves in other people’s shoes which has allowed for some great discussions in the classroom.   We are planning to run three, Grade 6, Q & A sessions to support transition to secondary school (all Grade 6 students).  We are also planning three, Grade 1/2 social skills groups.  Look out for notices coming home shortly.

Towards the end of term we will be running our Sexuality Program from Grade 3-6.  If you are looking for information or tips to support those tricky conversations we have a number of resources and handouts available.

For parents looking for resources, Maggie Dent’s latest book, From Boys to Men is a fantastic read. This book uses an evidence approach, is full of strategies and tips to help equip parents to support their boys to develop into good men. It’s available from all good book shops and Big W are selling it for $24.00 per copy. Some of the topics covered are-

  • Communicate effectively to defuse conflict
  • “Unstick” an unmotivated son
  • Teach them to cope with loss and failure, and how to recover
  • Help them foster healthy relationships and intimate relationships
  • Navigate technology and the digital world.

Free Happy Families Membership

Veronica and I are thrilled that a number of families have joined the Happy Families membership. We have had lots of positive comments that parents and carers are enjoying the website. If you haven’t got around to joining, it’s not too late. The Happy Families membership gives you access to a number of resources which will help families, staff and students to thrive.  Every member will receive a weekly "Lighten the Load" email, which includes a quick, easy to apply tip from Dr Justin, as well as some updates about other features in the membership. There is a library of parenting resources which offers calm assurance, direction and solutions you can try out on your families.

The Do’s & Don’ts of Discipline Webinar-

Monday 23rd November, 2020 8pm

This webinar is for every parent who has struggled to get their child to “behave”, they have tried everything and still have found themselves stuck. Dr Coulson will unpack-

  • Why the centuries-old strategies we still cling to should be left in the past
  • How we get discipline wrong and why
  • Real world examples of discipline that are as imperfect as you and your kids, but that still work, and
  • Ideas for discipline that turn everything you thought you knew about the topic on its head.

If you are needing help with school uniform, a food hamper or enquires for other services please call Veronica or myself.
