Yaama Everyone!
Welcome back to Term 4! Please see below a couple of things that are coming in the next few weeks:
'Yarn Up' Cultural Program
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support Team will be running 'Yarn Up', a cultural program which aims to address personal cultural identity. The program's first sessions will be based on expressing cultural identity through ART. The goal of the program is to support and build on student’s personal:
- cultural identity
- health
- positive relationships
- self-confidence and well-being
Whilst encouraging engagement at school by identifying student’s aspirations in a culturally safe environment through the use of art. The program aims to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the opportunity to positively participate in a program which increases and develops students' level of:
- responsibility
- decision making
- relationships they have with their peers and teachers
- encourages leadership in our communities
The program will be held during Year meetings and each Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student will have the opportunity to participate in 3 hour long sessions. Students are to register their interest with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Support Team. Please discuss with your child/children and feel free to communicate with the team with any questions.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Personal Learning Plans
All 2020 Student Personal Learning Plans have been completed. They will be sent home in the next few weeks. Please sign and return, if there is no signature, we will assume that you approve of the Personal Learning Plan.
Year 10 and 11 Yarn Up Week 1
Wednesday 14 October, Year 11 & 12 helped draw and outline the design for The Rainbow Serpent and Boobera Lakes. As well as designing decorations in preparation for NAIDOC and weaving bands for future performances. Thank you to all the students who contributed to today’s sessions! We are very excited to see the finished products!
