Assistant Principal - Curriculum

It has been interesting to read, as a result of the interruptions to school, the number of 2020 articles appreciating what teachers do. Some have been humorous, some sincere, but the general flavour has been recognition of the effort and professionalism of teachers.
Many years are invested in the training of teachers, but perhaps the most visible aspect of this time is ‘prac’ - a period of guided, supervised teaching where the preservice teacher is gradually introduced into the teaching role by a mentor teacher. The preservice teacher begins as an observer and finishes as a competent professional. It is always rewarding to work with ‘prac’ teachers. This term we are fortunate to have two preservice teachers at McCarthy. Ms Clara Wolds (2016 MCC graduate) is working with Mrs Cate Allen in Studies of Religion and Studies in Catholic Thought and Ms Jaelen Hurst is working with Mrs Chloe Bushell and Mr Wayne Northey in Technology. We welcome both teachers and trust that their experience here will be of value.
This week students in Years 8 and 9 completed online elective selections for the 2021 timetable. The 2021 Stage 5 offerings include old favourites and some interesting additions. Thank You to Mrs Maxworthy for facilitating this with the students.
Mrs Maxworthy has processed incoming forms for Year 11 to make changes to their pattern of study. Please be mindful that further changes may occur as we construct the 2021 timetable - and are able to rationalise based on numbers remaining in a course. Mr McManus discusses this in his article.
