Library News

From the Library staff we warmly welcome back all our students for Term 4.  We hope you enjoyed your holidays and read some great books from our collection!

Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week 2020 is here

This week, we are celebrating the Book. This special week, dedicated to bringing children and books together has been a feature in the Library and teaching calendar since 1945.   The CBCA also encourage Australian writing through sponsoring annual awards across age categories and special categories.

Author Visit to celebrate Book Week

“Be curious and use your tool in all writing forms,” is the key to writing.

During Book Week 2020, we have been privileged to have storyteller, author and journalist James Knight visit our College and create stories with our students.  This was a great opportunity for our students to have fun and create some stories and to build connections and empathy through stories with the experiences James shared with us of the people he has met through his travels.

James has a background in journalism and has written 13 books, including co-authoring "Back on Track," with Bernie Shakeshaft. Our students will find that Mr Knight's sessions are designed for them to have fun and to dig deep into their imagination to enhance their storytelling ability.

Through the library we have promised to maintain our connection with James and we hope to see him again.  He has generously offered to read the works of students who bring their work to the library so we can email it to him.  Get writing everyone!  This is a very generous offer.

In the Library

For our students we  have some wild and curious displays and activities and we have book suggestions where you will find Curious Creatures, Wild Minds:

  • Come in and guess the names of our selection of curious creatures.
  • Use your imagination and come up with a creative name for a group of koalas!
  • Borrow books full of curious creatures.

Winners of the CBCA Awards are in our Library

We have placed a “winners” sticker on the CBCA judged award winners. Thumb through and borrow the winners and shortlisted Children’s Book Council of Australia Books.  We have them all.
