Jobs for School Leavers
Several employers have contacted me or the College about job vacancies for gap year, full time apprenticeships and traineeships.
Details are now being posted in Google Classroom and put on the new Jobs Noticeboard at the front of the library. Details of part time jobs are also being placed there.
If any parent or guardian reading this is an employer, or works for an employer, who is looking to employ new staff who are College leavers, please contact me with details at the College on 67610800 or email me at mcccareers@arm.catholic.edu.au.
There is also a dedicated school leavers information service which will operate from 1 October 2020 to 30 June 2022. Information about the National Careers Institute can be found by click on the link.
Year 12 Highlights
Best wishes to all our Year 12 students who commence their HSC exams this week. Any students who need help or advice regarding university offers which will come out after 12 November and in December or are seeking full time employment are welcome to see me.
During the exam period all Year 12 will be able to collect information cards provided by the Federal Government about their website called “Your Career”. This provides information on education, training and employment pathways due to changes in the labour market as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It can be accessed by both students and parents/guardians and can be found if you click on the link above.
The National Careers Institute will also provide a dedicated school leavers information service from 1 October 2020 to 30 June 2022. This has two levels of service with a triage type service to assist callers and a personalised career guidance session for up to 45 minutes.
New information continues to arrive from employers, TAFE and universities regarding courses.
Careers Newsletters are posted each week on the Careers@McCarthy website on the Newsletters page accessible to both parents and students.
Year 11
As students commence their Year 12 studies, I have spoken to students at a recent Year meeting about what to consider if and when they change their HSC subjects and I have held a lunchtime talk on early entry schemes at universities.
Year 10
Students who have expressed interest in obtaining full time employment at the end of the year have been working with myself and several other staff to get resumes and cover letters prepared and also to organise work experience to assist them.
