Environmental Council BBQ

The 16 September was the College's McCarthy Olympics Day. The Environmental Council teamed up with Vinnies to run the Colleg eBBQ. This was a huge success, with money raised for both of the groups. The money raised for the Environmental Council was used to place in a watering system for the College nursery. The joint effort allowed for a greater variety of food products, with the inclusion of Burgers and Steak sandwiches.

The day was even more successful thanks to the generous support of Woolworths. Ms Belinda Dawson, Manager of Southgate Woolworths donated $100 towards supplies for the BBQ. Both St Vinnies and the Environmental Council would like to thank Woolworths for this support. I would also like to acknowledge Mr Leu and Mrs Allen who also ran the BBQ during the entire day.

Well done to both St Vinnies and the Environmental Council.

Tree Planting Day

The 18 September saw a fitting farewell to the existing members of the Executive Committee as they start their final studies for the HSC. The Environmental Council planted fifteen new plants as part of a long-term project to regenerate the land around the College. During part of the school day, students went into the land next to the creek, behind the school fence to place a number of Australian native trees. The trees were supplied by Tamworth Regional Council Nursery and Landcare, as well as some plants donated by Rachel Smith, Mrs Milgate and Mrs Nolan.

The Environmental Council would like to thank Mrs Penne Fraser of Landcare who provided valuable advice and most of the plants which were planted on the day. The council looks forward working with Mrs Fraser in further projects in the future. A big thanks to Ms Laird who helped with the planting during the day.

The existing members of the Environmental Council have done a marvellous job this year. Through their leadership, they have started the Collegeregeneration project through setting up the nursery, making tree guards and bird feeders, and the successful running of the Clean Up Australia Day. It will be sad to see them go and I wish them all the success in their HSC. Thanks to Bella Robertson (President), Bianca Watson (Vice President), Johanna Facistol (Secretary), Thomas Macpherson (Treasurer) and Nicholas Hannan (Communications Officer).

The Environmental Council will be holding elections for a new committee to take on these roles and are always looking for more members. If you would like to make a difference to the local environment or have an interest in outdoor activities, join the Environmental Council.
