Prayer and Reflection

Prayer
Dear Jesus, You are love, and you see all the suffering, injustice and misery, which reign in this world.
Have pity, we implore you, on the work of your hands.
Look mercifully on the poor, the oppressed, and all who are heavy laden with error,
labour and sorrow.
Fill our hearts with deep compassion for those who suffer, and hasten the coming of your kingdom of justice and truth.
Amen.

Anti-Poverty Week
Anti-poverty Week (11-17 October) is a national campaign to raise awareness about the financial struggle thousands of Australians experience everyday. Poverty is certainly about a lack of money – both income for now and savings for later. But it can also be about not having things, such as: affordable housing; access to good education or health services. While many Australians juggle payments of bills, people living in poverty often have terrible options – such as skipping a meal to pay for a child’s textbooks, missing medication or not heating or cooling their home.
The ACOSS/UNSW Poverty in Australia 2020 report found: In Australia, there are more than 3.24 million people or 13.6% of the population living below the poverty line. This includes 774,000 children or more than 1 in 6; and many of those affected are living in deep poverty – on average $282 a week below the poverty line. During Anti-Poverty Week we prayed the above prayer each morning in Mentor Group and promoted the need to be aware of the poor in our community, families and friendship groups.
St Nicholas Primary School Year 6 Confirmation
McCarthy Catholic College has received a letter of appreciation from St Nicholas Primary School for MCC students and their involvement in the Confirmation Program run at the end of last term. The program was deemed a success and the St Nicholas School community especially thanked our students; Martha Smith, Maeve Galvin and Emily Pring for helping the confirmation participants with answers to questions and support as they underwent their confirmation journey.
The following is a short excerpt from the letter:
‘The students were excellent ambassadors of our faith, themselves, their families and McCarthy Catholic College. Their answers were honest and they conducted themselves in a friendly and professional manner showing great enthusiasm and willingness to be great role models to all. They are to be commended for their example of leadership and great faith.’
Condolences
Our thoughts and prayers are with Christopher Ryan and his family after the passing of his Grandfather, and to Sapphire-Leigh Kuczer and her family after the passing of her Aunt.
