HAVE YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGED OVER THE COVID PERIOD??

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

  • school camps or trips
  • swimming and school-organised sport programs
  • outdoor education programs
  • excursions and incursions.

From 2020, the Victorian Government is investing an additional $160.9 million for the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund over the next four years. This funding will help ensure more than 220,000 government and non-government students from lower-income families are able to participate in camps, sports and excursions each year.

The final eligibility date for CSEF in 2020 has been extended from 14 April until 5 October 2020. So if you have held a concession card within this time frame you could be eligible.

Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply. The normal special consideration arrangements continue in addition.

Payments will be made at 50 per cent of the standard per student rates for families eligible between 15 April and 5 October 2020.

Applications must be submitted through the CSEF system by 27 November 2020, so if you think you are eligible please contact the office for a form.

Health and PE Semester 2, 2020.

It has most definitely been a year to remember (or forget) at Echuca East in 2020! Firstly, I would like to thank our wonderful East Community- Parents/carers, students and school staff for supporting each other during these uncertain times. It certainly is heartening to know that even in the most difficult times we can pull together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students.

Term 3 had us returning to remote learning.

Level 3 and 4 students worked from a ‘Health and Physical Education Flexible Learning Grid which they devised themselves in small groups to come up with ideas they felt they could do at home to stay fit and healthy. The grid had a broad range of activities focusing on different fundamental motor skills across sports such as basketball, football, netball, and athletics. The grid also included a great range of warm up activities and things that could be done individually, with a partner or in a small group.

Level 1 and 2 students also worked from a grid which had easy to follow instructions on how to practise for their Mini Olympics. This grid included running events such as hurdles, sprints, shuttle runs and long jump. In conjunction with the running events there was a range of other skill events/challenges included to improve their fundamental motor skills such as accuracy throw, egg and spoon, rebound catching and much, much more.

Term 4 had us back at the mighty Echuca East PS for some much anticipated onsite learning. It was fantastic to see the students returning to school so eager to get back into their Health and PE lessons. The major focus for this term was on the mental health and wellbeing of the students. Term 4 provided many opportunities for the students to re-engage with their peers whilst participating in a variety of competitive and non-competitive sports such as athletics, soccer, cricket, football and fundamental motor skills rotations.

Throughout all lessons this semester there has been a huge focus on staying healthy and Covid safe by practising good hygiene, sanitising at the beginning and end of each lesson, maintaining social distancing as much as possible, working outside and regularly disinfecting the sports equipment.

Well done Easties you have demonstrated outstanding resilience, let’s hope we can get back to closer to normal in 2021.

Regards,

Ben Holmfield

CIRCUS 2020

This year in circus, students have focused on a mix of hands-on skill-based activities as well as theoretical components. Students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of circus apparatus. Through their exploration, the focus was for students to develop concentration, focus and persistence, assisting students to gain problems solving skills and strength to deal with challenges. The level of difficulty of the activities ranged widely to foster self-confidence and provide reasonable personal challenges to each student, in a non-competitive environment where they could work at their own pace. The implementation of a levels system permitted students to set their own goals to work towards and choose apparatus to focus upon. Sharing new skills and knowledge with peers was encouraged.

Students also had the opportunity to explore the purposes, showmanship and meaning of circus arts. This included the history and elements involved in circus performance, changes from traditional to contemporary circus and clowning.

Regards,

Nicole Chalmers.
