Principal's Report

FINISHING OFF THE YEAR WELL

It’s fantastic to see how well Victoria is doing in terms of reducing Covid-19 numbers and nice to know that we’ll finish off the year without further interruption.  Everyone is doing their best to make the most of every day to promote learning, whilst maintaining a settled environment.  Thanks again to parents for your work in supporting the children to transition back into school successfully.

Quite a bit has been happening behind the scenes this term as we prepare for 2021. This has included:

Class Structures: I’m sure you read last week’s newsletter where all of this was explained.

In the Teaching and Learning section of this newsletter, we start to answer key questions regarding composite class groupings that featured in the parent survey responses.

All parents are welcome to attend any of the Webex sessions we have coming up, the first of which will be on Wednesday evening at 7pm in Dave Young’s meeting room (570 965 501).  The focus for this session is how the curriculum is covered within a composite class structure.

Next week’s session will take place on November 25 (same time and Webex Room) and the focus will be on catering for individual student needs.

Staff Selection and Allocation of Roles – Selection processes to fill teaching vacancies are close to concluding and in the coming weeks we will be able to confirm staff roles for 2021.

Sorting Children into Classes – On Monday teachers commence the process of sorting students into class groupings for next year, ensuring we develop truly balanced classes and with student friendship groups in mind.  A big thank you to parents who have been very considerate with their classroom placement requests. This makes it possible for us to meet those requests, whilst still being able to develop class groupings that will work.

Students will find out who their teacher is for 2021 and which classroom they will be in on the last Tuesday of term (December 15).

End of Year Reporting – Over the past month students have been taken through a variety of assessments and teachers are now working on end of year reports.  These will become available on Compass from the evening of December 4.

Parent Teacher Interviews (with or without their child….your choice) and 3 Way Conversations (definitely with your child) provide teachers with the opportunity to provide additional information on your child’s year.  These will be held on December 8 and 10.

Please note that school finishes at 1pm on December 10.  Base 1270 will run from 1-6pm on this day, with the cost being the same as a regular after school session.  Contact Mel in the office to enrol your child.

More information can be found in the Teaching and Learning section of the newsletter.

Solar Panels Grant

Earlier this year we applied to the state government for a grant to have solar panels installed at both campuses.  Last week we were informed that we have made it through to the second stage of the process.  In the coming fortnight both campuses will be assessed for their suitability for the installation of solar panels.  We have our fingers crossed and would love to have some panels on the roof to cut energy bills and do our bit for the planet.
