Peninsula Student Experience Day

On Tuesday 8 December, Year 10 or 11 students interested in education, health and business will have an opportunity to find out what it's like to study at Monash Peninsula. They'll be able to:

hear from current Monash students and alumni about their student experience and careers
learn how to better manage stress, build resilience and stay motivated to help them succeed in VCE
ask Monash faculty representatives all their course-related questions

Change of preference extended phone support and appointments

Monash University has extended its support hours via phone and live chat for the change of preference period between 30 December and 3 January. Phone and live chat support will be available from:

8 am – 6 pm, Wednesday 30 December
9 am – 4 pm, Thursday 31 December
11 am – 4 pm, Saturday 2 January
11 am – 4 pm, Sunday 3 January

The University will also be offering 15-minute, one-on-one phone consultations to answer general questions students may have during this time. Appointments are available on 17, 18, 21 and 22 December for interstate students, and 30, 31 December and 4 January for Victorian students. Monash will resume normal operating hours on Monday 4 January.

Monash Change Day and campus tours — dates confirmed

Campus tours at the Clayton, Caulfield, Parkville and Peninsula campuses will be available for Year 12 students between Monday 14 December and Friday 18 December. Monash Change Day will be held virtually on Wednesday 30 December between 4 pm and 6 pm and Thursday 31 December between 10 am and 12 pm. Students will have the opportunity to ask all their questions, watch videos on-demand, explore study areas and pathway options and talk to Monash University course advisers one-on-one. Outside of Monash Change Day, students are able to book a 15-minute, one-on-one phone consultation with a Monash course adviser, call 1800 MONASH (1800 666 274) or chat during the extended change of preference support hours.

Biomedical engineering specialisation now offered in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Students seeking a career combining medicine and technology can now undertake the new biomedical engineering specialisation. Students will learn to design and develop new diagnostics, monitoring tools and therapies, and build new medical instruments and devices through the study of engineering design fundamentals and biological science subjects. Biomedical engineering has a slightly different first-year structure to the engineering common first year and is listed separately on VTAC (VTAC Course Code 2800328811).

Stay the course for Monash medicine

This year, selection for medicine interviews in December will be based on a ranking of applicants’ UCAT test scores. If students with a rural or regional background have met the UCAT requirements and have submitted an application for the Dean’s Rural List, then medicine at Monash remains a real option. Monash is keen to see students with different perspectives in the course, and ultimately, the wider medical profession. Interview invitations will be sent from 2 December so please ensure you have provided a correct and accessible email address via your VTAC application.

Pathways to teaching

The Diploma of Tertiary Studies and the Diploma of Higher Education both provide an excellent pathway into the Bachelor of Education (Honours) and a range of other Monash courses. These pathways are ideal for students who miss out on the required ATAR or don’t meet the maths prerequisite. VU Polytechnic: Get set for university with the Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (22313VIC)

As one of Australia’s few dual-sector institutes, VU offers several options for students looking to continue their education.

The Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation (22313VIC) supports students who want to study at university but may require extra preparation and support in academic reading, writing and research. Students will learn fundamental skills in problem-solving, collaborative learning and teamwork.

Successful completion of this course meets the admission requirements for a range of VU bachelor courses. The next intake starts on 1 February 2021.

Studying business at VU provides a real-world advantage

Through practical placements and industry connections, students studying Business at VU will set themselves up for a career in many exciting and ever-evolving industries.

Read about Anastasia Keras, whose eight-month Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement in marketing and events at Channel 9 helped her grow professionally and academically.

Rob Rabba, Operations Manager at Eureka Skydeck says their first port of call is VU students. He says they know that business graduates who have completed their course at VU are well prepared and ready to experience the real world.

Change of Preference at VU

VU will be hosting a Change of Preference Virtual Event on 31 December from 11 am–1 pm.

Register for COP Event

Students will be able to watch course information and pathway sessions and participate in live chats. Student Ambassadors and VU staff will be on hand during the event to help with any questions about courses, admission requirements and life at VU.

For tips on how parents, guardians and influencers can support Year 12s through exams, results and their next steps for the future, VU sat down with provisional psychologist Frances Stutterd and got some great advice.
