Clyde North Campus News

November already and a Final Assembly

How interesting that we are only back a few weeks, yet the program for our final campus assembly held this week was a full program. This clearly tells us that we have embraced being back on campus and that many of the activities planned in remote learning were successfully achieved.

Traditionally the focus of this assembly is the investiture of the College and House Captains for the new year. We have much to look forward to and be thankful of the dedication our new student leaders demonstrated during this assembly. Whilst Corey and Alliah looked somewhat relied at the end of the assembly they along with Elizabeth and Aschley should be very proud of their first involvement in leading the campus assembly. We look forward to Samuel, Samantha, and Dinuli bringing their portfolios of Sport and Environment to stand equally alongside the College Captains, Liturgy and Social Justice portfolios. I also want to acknowledge the eagerness and energy displayed by the 2021 House Captains during their induction. The Rosemary Graham Shield Competition is  indeed in good hands with our new House Captains.

Moving beyond the investiture stage of the assembly, we celebrated the many diverse talents of our students. Tournaments of minds’ teams lead by Ms Gallagher were very successful in their recent competition. More success followed our French students who participated in the Alliance Francoise competition, under the direction of Mrs Rammuth. Our Inter Boys Cricket champions finally brought home the pennant and no one was more pleased than Mr Samaranayake.

Story Writing has always been enjoyed and celebrated at St. Peter's College so we were extremely pleased with the number of student entries in The George Ivanoff Short Story Writing Competition. This competition was part of Book Week this year and followed a writing workshop with children's author George Ivanoff for Years 7 & 8. We enjoyed a special video presentation from George Ivanoff presenting our winners and runners up with special comments as shown below.

CLYDE NORTH CAMPUS

1st — “Fading Lights” by Tharushi Perera Wannakuwaththa Waduge Don 8I

This story had such a lovely fairytale-like quality to it and although fantastical, it had a clear inner logic.

2nd — “Time Out” by Janice Yates 8J

An interesting story with a well structured approach.

Equal Runner-ups —

“Crescendo” by Kirsten Canda 8J

“Reading Detectives Story” by Rhianna Lay 8J

Writing is a talent celebrated within St. Peter's College.

And finally, the last item of the assembly was the Art and Technology Exhibition. Not being able to have our usual open night and presentation due to COVID restrictions we enjoyed a video presentation of wonderful art and design work. We have so much rich talent in our students and our teachers who guide these emerging and talented artists and designers.

So, as you can see, we had much to celebrate, enjoy and reflect upon during our final Campus Assembly. Based on what we have been able to achieve upon returning to school, we can look forward with confidence and optimism that 2021 will be an exciting and productive year.

Or do we all strive to be the parent who is able to see that success can be experienced and measured in many different ways? Parents can be a combination of all the types presented. In this way we can join together as parents and teachers to build a strong partnership and environment in which your sons & daughters, our students flourish.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
