From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Th 2020 academic year is over and this week the new academic year commenced as we began Headstart 2021.

New Beginnings

This year we found the perfect way to rid ourselves of the challenging year of learning when we began our 2021 learning program. Over the years, since its inception, the Headstart program has ensured engaging learning is maintained up to and including the final day of classes. Students are challenged to keep up the momentum of learning until that final day. Headstart provides the opportunity for all students to experience learning in their new classes, with their new teachers, enabling all to smoothly transition into the following year.

We had the opportunity in this week’s school assembly to reflect on the year that was and the learnings that have stemmed from it. There have been many positives to emerge in the area of education and learning, much forced upon us by COVID. One of the most significant learnings for students has been that they have come back valuing and appreciating school and learning in school.

In reflecting with students’ I posed four learnings which have been significant throughout this year. They are:

  1. Learning is important
  2. Students are the greatest single influence on their own academic achievement and destiny
  3. Teachers are critical to overall success, and
  4. To maximise their true potential there is a requirement of a partnership involving student, parent and school

Student Leaders

Congratulations to our student leaders for 2021. Our new senior student leaders with portfolios were inducted into their roles in an investiture ceremony as part of this week’s school assembly. I congratulate each of our student leaders for putting themselves forward to serve the College community. It is often said by the senior students as they progress through the leadership election process that the single most important reason they wished to serve the college community in this way was because of the example set by the student leaders before them. College and SRC leaders are now entrusted with the responsibility of shaping our school community, particularly the student body. They are encouraged to embrace this responsibility and leave no stone unturned in being the best version of themselves as student leaders. This should be the legacy they leave behind at the end of their tenure. This will be their challenge.
