Marian STEAM Learning

On Monday 30 November at 7 pm, we are excited to present our 2020 Marian College STEAM Showcase. Whilst our showcase will be in a different format this year, it will still highlight the incredible progress that has been made in integrating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) skills into our learning programs.

In STEAM learning we prioritise the design-thinking process, problem-solving, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, and communication skills, all of which will be on display from our students in the showcase.

Congratulations to all of these students. Projects being presented include those selected for the Catholic Education Melbourne STEM MAD (make a difference) Showcase in which schools from all over Melbourne and beyond compete. Once again, a Marian Year 7 team were recognised for excellence, gaining an award in two categories. Another outstanding example is the Marian team who were selected to participate in a program where wattle seeds are being sent to the International Space Station on one of the Space X missions.

Many other student projects illustrate the amazing opportunities that the students have to work with a wide range of future-focused technologies including virtual reality headsets, 3D printers, robotics, laser cutters, coding, spheros, app and game design and inventing simple machines to assist in daily life tasks. Our advances in STEAM learning should ensure that our students are prepared with skills required to learn, live and work in the years ahead.

Thank you to Suzanne Matejn, Brigid Whelan and their teams for all of their leadership and dedication to make this possible. Finally, we encourage all of our students and families to watch the STEAM Showcase next Tuesday evening as this enables our students to present their projects to a real - world audience.
