World’s Greatest Shave

Every year the World’s Greatest Shave takes place to raise funds to support those fighting against cancer.

An individual’s hair may be a significant part of their strength, culture, and even identity, however, many people undergoing cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy, have to deal with the side effect of hair loss. In an effort to support people facing cancer, shaving is an act of solidarity and the funds received from donations go directly to the Leukaemia Foundation.

This year, MGC will be holding our shave on the 1st of April (Friday) on the library deck during lunchtime! If you are interested in supporting us, you can:

  • Sign up to shave here
  • Donate to the MGC team here
  • Bring a gold coin on the day of the shave, as we will collecting gold coin donations from students that would like to watch the shave

We hope to see you there and if you have any questions, feel free to email Mr Sturgess or drop by a philanthropy meeting in room 211 on Fridays!

Thank you

Volunteer Tutoring Program

Every Tuesday after a school a group of MGC students are changing the world!

We jump on the tram then walk down Lennox Street to the Salvation Army Hall and spend an hour or so helping out Primary School students from the local Vietnamese community with their Maths and English. It is such a rewarding and fun program. If you’d like to get involved, contact Mr. Sturgess.

Youth in Philanthropy Program

Do you have a passion for giving back to the community? Have you ever wanted to support specific charities? Are you a year 10 – 11 student? Well, here’s your chance! Join the Youth in Philanthropy program today!

The Youth in Philanthropy Program is established by John Mayor’s Charitable Foundation and provides youths with the opportunity to further learn about philanthropy and to be able to develop a variety of skills, such as decision making skills, problem solving, collaboration, and so on. One of the Foundation’s goal/mission is to increase life opportunities for disadvantaged members of the community, therefore, they will be allocating $10,000 to each participating school, where participants will essentially be choosing how to distribute funds to 3 selected charities from a pre-approved list of organisations.

To summarise, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn/research about and select several charities
  • Visit your selected charities
  • Determine how to allocate funds to the selected charities
  • Optional: Fundraise to increase funds

This program will composed of a committee of 4-8 students from year 10-11, so this will be a first come first serve opportunity! For more information regarding the program, visit the link here and if you have any other questions or want to join, feel free to email Mr Sturgess!

Let’s make a difference together!
