PDHPE

Welcome to PDHPE for Term 1 at Mater Dei 2020. Staff and students have been very productive and look forward to an energetic and rewarding year ahead as we move quickly through Term 1.

Year 7

Year 7 have begun this Term participating in Athletics activities within their practical lessons to develop skills that they can implement for the upcoming Athletics Carnival. Students will also be challenged through a variety of problem solving and cross country activities throughout the term.

Inside the classroom, Year 7 have started working through a unit of work focusing on Change and Relationships in which they take a strengths based approach in looking at interactions they have with people around them, and how to maintain positive relationships. They will identify challenges that they will face during High School and develop strategies to overcome these. We encourage all students to continue these conversations outside the classroom with their parents.

Year 9

Year 9 have also been participating in Athletics, focusing particularly on the throws and jumps, and then moving onto baton relays, sprints and finishing the end of the Term with preparation for the Cross Country.  In theory lessons students have begun working through a Respectful relationships unit, where students identify change and challenges in their life and look towards the future with a positive mindset.

Year 9 Child Studies

This is a new syllabus this year and students have started to explore the world of an expectant parent; looking at how to begin a nursery and how expensive items can be when preparing for the birth of a first child. Students will shortly look at budgeting and keeping a home a safe place for a child. The students will begin their “Care for an Egg Baby” task during this Term, where they need to keep an egg safe for three days and document their time caring for their Egg.

Year 9 Outdoor Education

Students are getting prepared for their rock climbing excursion to Airborne Gymnastics. They are seen in the photos practising their belaying and harnessing, in preparation for their excursion. The interest electives provide students with choice in the learning in areas that develop skills, collaboration and create interest for further involvement in the future through a range of challenges outside of the traditional classroom environment.

Year 11 and 12 Sport, Life and Recreation

Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation students have begun 2020 looking at fitness and resistance training units, which has seen them involved in self managed, varied and engaging activities so far this year. Utilising the SNAP Fitness gym, students have begun developing and participating in their own personalised resistance training programs where they are focussing on sports specific improvement and general fitness principles.

Students have also been organising and participating in a range of individual, team and competitive games in which they have developed scoring systems, rules, tournament structures and results collation. The aim of these programs is to provide opportunities within sport, fitness and physical activity should they choose to follow this pathway in the future.

Lesson 5 Practical Lessons

Just a reminder that all students are required to change back into their full College uniform after each lesson prior to departing the college. If you are representing the college in a school sporting team straight after school you may remain in sports uniform.
