Prep,1 & 2 Classroom News

Just before ending for the Easter break junior students participated in our whole school Easter paraliturgy. The Preps and 1/2's sang, 'Sing it Hosanna'. Check it out.
This week we all headed to Mass on Wednesday with Father Dean. I must say the students were excellent during Mass and answered all of Father Dean's questions and were very respectful. Well done! He talked about why he was wearing white on the altar and why we are still celebrating the season of Easter right up until the 28th of May. He had an important line from the Gospel which he said was one of his favourite and many peoples favourites. We might see this verse held up sometimes at sporting events. From the Gospel according to John 3:16-21
"For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life".
PREP NEWS
Welcome back to term 2. We hope you have had a lovely well earned break. It was so lovely to see all our preps back and eager to learn. We can't believe how much they have grown in just 2 weeks! Next Week Ms Maloney returns from Ireland. We can't wait to hear all about her trip. We would like to thank Mrs Biffin for all her hard work in Prep. We are so lucky to have such an amazing teacher in our school.
Literacy
This week students have been looking at the letter 'n'. We have been continuing to explore and use the MSL approach each day in our class. The children have been working really hard doing their MSL sound packs each morning.
YR. 1/2 NEWS
R.E.
This week students looked at the final and most important part of the Easter story. We read from the Bible the story of Easter Sunday and looked at this important line from Matthew's Gospel.
“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” Matthew 28:6 Students made a tomb with the bolder rolled away to show that the tomb was empty.
Literacy
Continuing with our MSL journey (Multisensory Structured Language) we have to added to the sound pack another type of syllable called an 'Open syllable'. This is when the vowel is not trapped and can shout out its name. Ask your child about it and see what they can remember.
Maths
This week students explored counting collections. Students were able to explore patterns formed by skip counting with objects and use their knowledge of place value to split the number up into its different parts. This lesson has also lead to an introduction into multiplication by looking at repeated addition, groups and arrays.
Listen to Lottie explain what she learnt from her counting.
Have A Go At Home
With your child have a look at the picture above. Discuss how many jelly beans do you think there are? You might like to estimate. How did you estimate your number? Did you just guess? How could we find out how many jelly beans? Here you might like to get out some pasta (or something similar) to model finding out the anwer.
Autumn Walk
Year 1/2 went for a short walk around the block to have a look for signs of Autumn. We walked to Mrs Pennington's house to collect some leaves. We learnt that trees that lose their leaves are deciduous trees.
